Video of the 0-3 loss to Hull City in December 1968: Ken Wagstaffe; some player. I went to Hull a couple of months before this game (also lost 3 - 0!) and expressed admiration for his brilliance. One of the Hull fans said we'll swap him for your ginger little winger...

One of the Hull fans said we'll swap him for your ginger little winger... Yeah, Ken Wagstaffe was a good player, “solidly built” you could say, but hell of a winger and scored lots of goals. Hull were good to watch around that time - Wagstaffe, Chilton and Houghton. I know Town tried to sign Chilton at one time. Colin Dobson was my favourite about that time - I was a goal-scoring left winger myself - though not ginger! Glad you enjoy these threads. It’s a shame I didn’t go to more games than I did.

All mouth, no trousers. Nice Audi.

Strangely, in the promotion season 69-70 we also played them near Christmas. Whilst we were going to finish up top of the table, that particular match finished 2-2, and we were very lucky to get a very scrappy equaliser. I'm going with Smith, but I'm not looking any of this up, so my memory could be wrong... well I'm pretty sure it was 2-2 and a scrappy game. Strange memory. Result right, Smith scored our first, but it was bloody March. I think it stuck in my head because Town were renowned for buggering things up around Easter in the 60s, and I really thought they were going to do it again, until a glorious night at aMiddlesbrough shortly after. ( and yes I was there)
