Today sees the Bundesliga (Div 1) get underway again despite the Germans still suffering a post-World Cup hangover. With Bayern Munich playing TSG Hoffenheim in the opening game the Bavarians will be hoping to build on their success of winning the league for the last six seasons on the run! A new manager (coach), Niko Kovac, is on board and despite the club having the oldest squad in the league (average age) it's been a quiet transfer season for one of the richest clubs in Europe. On the whole the Germans do tend to be careful how they spend their money and the splash the cash mentality of the Prem just doesn't exist. Rarely does a player get to join the Bundesliga for more than €40 million. This does of course have a positive effect on fans paying for tickets. The most expensive season ticket is currently at Schalke 04 where a top seat costs €884 per season (not including VIPs or business lounges). If you are a Wolfsburg fan you can get in as cheap as €130 for the standing area or €400 for a seat. This is mainly due to the fact that crowds in Wolfsburg are diminishing. Some clubs though just can't sell enough tickets. Borussia Dortmund has a stadium that holds over 81,000 and they have to put a limit on selling season tickets, currently 56,000. There is a waiting list though of 47,700! Dortmund will as usual most likely be the title contenders hoping to finally knock Bayern off their throne but the youngsters from RB Leipzig are also well fancied. With many subjects to be argued about including the 2nd year of VAR, Monday night games, TV rights and the 50+1 rule it's going to be worth watching. I'm sure DW is.

Post World Cup hangover?? They were only there for a week! Exactly Oz, they spent the rest of the World Cup like the rest of us with their feet up on the couch with beer and crisps. Or maybe in their case a chilled riesling and vol-au-vents.

Don't you just love the way the media whisks up interest for itself. Probably because of 24 hour coverage these days. On Sky news this morning was a report that Bayern Munich were having a press conference at midday, with not only their coach on display but at a later session the three bosses too. The Sky rumour was that Arsene Wenger was a hot tip to take over after Bayern's less than impressive start to the season (currently 6th in the Bundesliga). Anyway it all came to nothing as Niko Kovac is still in his job and the bosses were just on a day out to complain about how the TV, newspapers and footy magazines have been treating them with disrespect during the last few weeks. The Bayern players even getting slagged off when playing for the national team.. Boo Hoo! Hilarious really. I think they've opened up a can of worms here and some journalists will now go in for the kill just to piss them off even more. The Bayern Munich bosses have even threatened some of the media with legal action if things don't improve. So much for free speech 'eh?

The Bayern Munich bosses have even threatened some of the media with legal action if things don't improve. So much for free speech 'eh? All good points, lorddriffield. The only problem is this: Are Bayern deliberately creating their own quagmire to make the Bundesiga more attractive as a spectacle? They've won the league 6 times running; and frankly, it's making the Bundesliga product owned by Sky in Germany less and less interesting with every notched-up title. So my feeling is that this could be a Sky-instigated quest in the re-calibration of "how to make the Bundesliga more interesing". Sky are notoriously Bayern-friendly, and it just wouldn't surprise anybody anymore that they are now deploying this kind of tactic just to stir things up a little and make things more "interesting". Should the Bayern win the title again after all, Sky Deutschland has (unfortunately) bought the PL rights for 3 years starting from next season, just in case German fans get fed up of Bayern winning the title all the time and turn their interests to a more competitive league in England (whilst sticking with the Sky sods).

A fantastic top of the table clash between Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich yesterday. Dortmund winning 3-2 and going 7 points clear of their rivals which increases the pressure on Munich's new coach Niko Kovac. The english teenager Jadon Sancho had another great game for Dortmund. The young lad can run like Speedy Gonzalez. A dramatic last minute equaliser by Lewandowski was ruled offside which led to the pub I was watching the game in to go absolutely mental. (Yellow and black! not a red shirt to be seen).

Are they going to turn the tables and pocket their annual, inevitable title win. Really pisses me off that no-one is in a position to really challenge them. You just know Dortmund are going to mess things up. To make things worse, DAZN are losing the TV rights for the PL league in Germany next season (keeping Championship football for all Town fans should we go down). But they (DAZN) are trying to make up for it by going for live Bundesliga rights instead. Still good for 10EUR a month, but do we really all want to be watching Bayern going for their 8th title. What's the feeling among Dortmund fans in your Stammkneipe?

Yeah, not a good time to be a Dortmund fan, some gnashing of teeth and banging heads against walls in recent weeks, even if their beloved team are still top of the league. Out of the Champions League as well tonight despite a spirited fight in the 1st half. The biggest question in the Bundesliga at the moment though is what the hell has happened to Schalke? Would be mad if they got relegated. Will Bayern keep their nerve now that three of their star players have been booted out of the national team by Jogi Löw?

Can't really see Schalke going down, even if their plight was magnified by Stuttgart's magnificent 5-1 v Hanover the other day. And even if they do, it won't be any consolation for Dortmund fans after seeing their team lose a double-figure points lead over Bayern. 7 bloody titles in a row it'll be - They don't even have to be at their best to win the German title. What's worse is the way Sky are brown-nosing them, making out what a brilliant team they are, when in reality all the rest are crap!

Was on a Stag Do in Düsseldorf over the weekend. Went to watch Leverkusen play on Saturday vs Freiburg. Great stadium, superb atmosphere and even the beer was cheap in the fan park. Match was average though.

Poor 1.FC Nürnberg are doing their best to emulate Town. The club can look back on a glorius history of league championships in the 1920s. If they were not champions then they were 2nd, year after year. Amazing really, as today they are more or less a yo-yo type club, not being able to make up their minds if they want to be in Bundesliga 1 or 2. Today another defeat which sees them continuing to sit at the bottom of the league with a meagre 13 points from 25 games. Only 19 goals scored all season. Rumours of a certain Mr Wagner taking over at the end of the season have as yet to be confirmed!

Nürnberg are of course the only team to have got relegated from the top flight as reigning champions, sometime in the late 60s I think it was. Aside from that, there are reports that Olaf Rebbe is in the running for the Nürnberg job - Wagner to follow, who knows? Talking of reigning champions, Bayern won 5-0 v Dortmund today. What a farce the Bundesliga has become, totally Bayern-dominated. I think I'd even take RB Leipzig to win it over them - just for a bloody change!!

They were 9 points adrift and Dortmund have blown it. Tbh they’ve the players to do it. On paper a lot of Dortmund would walk into Bayern’s team. They’ve just bottled it and Bayern have hit hot form

You just know Bayern are going to win it; and now they know they can afford the luxury of starting badly, and still win it. I've lost count of how many titles they've won in succession now (this will be the 8th?), but in previous years they just blew the league away pretty much from the very outset - and now the one time when everyone who hates Bayern thinks they are going to lose it has proven to be a burst bubble of hope :-(

It certainly was a bad day for Dortmund yesterday as two of their ex-players scored three goals between them helping Bayern Munich thrash them 5-0. Lewandowski who went from Dortmund to Bayern for free is now one of only a handful of players ever to have scored over 200 goals in the history of the Bundesliga. A natural goal machine who once got 5 goals in the space of 9 minutes a few years ago against Wolfsburg. As for the question who will be this season's champion? It's not over till it's over! With half a dozen games to play and both teams having a tricky final game in May it could well go to the wire. Bayern Munich's 7th title on the run beckons with only Borussia Dortmund to stop them from absolutely dominating the game in Germany. Nice to see a certain Premier League team knock them out of Europe this year!

Have him in my FIFA team and hes red hot on there too. He will be at a bigger team come the summer

Luka Jovic - the 21 year old Serb is having a great season, as "spezial" mentions above, playing for Frankfurt. It will indeed be fascinating to see where he'll be next season as the press is having a field day writing about where he's supposedly going and what he's worth. At the beginning of the year a future transfer was going to cost in the region of 40 million, now a few weeks later that's risen to 55 million. Peanuts for clubs such as Barca, Real and Chelsea who have been linked with him, but a huge amount for Bayern Munich if they want to team him up again with his old boss Niko Kovac.

David Wagner being tipped as a hot candidate for the Hertha Berlin job now that it's known that Pal Dardai is making way for a new, younger, fresher approach in the German capital. Would love this to happen - article does point out he's considering other options in England and Germany, mind. What do all the Berlin Terriers make of the rumours? Is it realistic that Hertha can get him? Will he go for the moneybags option in England, or can Hertha really entice him to a club trying to re-form their identity? sport.sky.de/fussball/artikel/hertha-bsc-david-wagner-gilt-als-nachfolge-kandidat-fuer-pal-dardai/11696482/34240

The penultimate games in the Bundesliga have been played and the race to be champion goes to the wire as in the Prem. Bayern Munich being 2 points ahead of Borussia Dortmund with the final games to be played next week. Today was a nailbiter as Bayern could have been crowned kings for the 7th time on the run had it not been for a goal being ruled out by VAR leaving them with only a goalless draw against Leipzig. Dortmund had to win and indeed they did but 2 goals in that particular game went in after 90 minutes. Eintracht Frankfurt could throw a spanner into the works against Bayern next week if they repeat their heroics of playing so well and almost getting to the Europa League Final. Bayern have everything to lose and Dortmund have everything to gain. Bring it on!

Well it's all over in the Bundesliga and surprise surprise Bayern Munich are champions once again, their 7th on the run! They really are a football machine. Borussia Dortmund chased them all the way but it was not to be. Loads of goals went in on the last day of the season, three teams scoring FIVE and Wolfsburg going mad and scoring EIGHT (the reward for that being a place in the Europa League next season). Beer will be flowing in copius amounts on and off the field in Munich. Two of their oldies played their final league game for the club and will get a mighty send off from the home crowd. Ribery and Robben both came on as subs in the 2nd half and promptly scored goals within a few minutes. Another oldie getting on the scoresheet today was Claudio Pizzaro for Bremen who gave his club a late win over RB Leipzig. He'll be 41 years old later this year and has just been given another extension to his contract! Big losers of the day are surely Hoffenheim. Not only are they losing their manager but they shot themselves in the foot (going down to 10 men). They were 2-0 up at half time but lost 2-4 to Mainz thereby not getting into the Europa League places. Two goals in injury time, ouch! So Bayern march on as the others look on. As they say in Germany "Same procedure as every year".
