End of the season for Bundesliga 2 today. Union Berlin narrowly missing out on automatic promotion but they still have a chance of joining the big clubs next season. They have to play Stuttgart in a home and away play off. I like the relegation-promotion games between 1st and 2nd division clubs to decide who goes up, goes down, stays up or stays down.

As Porrohman said in the "Today's games" thread, Collin Quaner's old employers, Union Berlin, have reached Germany's top flight after coming through against VfB Stuttgart in the relegation play-offs.
The last time Berlin had two football clubs in Bundesliga 1 was in 1977 (the two west-Berliner clubs Hertha and Tennis Borussia). Extraordinary really given the size of the city (even if it was split between East and West before 1989). I think I'm right in also saying that Union will also be the first team from the old East Berlin to reach the Bundesliga.
The club popular with British football fans living in Berlin will also be expanding the size of thir stadium from 22- to 37 000. Although not meeting German Football Association requirements regarding Bundesliga grounds having at least 8 000 seats (Union only have 3 500 seats in their current 22 000 capacity stadium!), they have received special approval for the coming season from the DFB.
One fixture folk will be looking out for next season is Hertha v Union, the first time Berlin will have a derby game in the highest German division for well over 40 years.

David Wagner's first game in the Bundesliga for Schalke:
17.08.2019 Borussia Mönchengladbach (A)
Not an easy start!!
Edit: Week after Schalke play Bayern Munich at home!
What is it about David Wagner and difficult starts to the season these past couple of years!!
First time I can catch him is in Leipzig at end of September.
