The EFL Cup Final on 31st March will be Sunderland v Portsmouth...Now all of you that have followed Town for at least the last 40 years will remember what sort of following Pompey have which even in the old 4th Division back in the 70's was around 20,000 at Fratton Park(frightening place but a game not to miss) and as for Sunderland well you can double it and some...So what's the odds of an 80,000 turnout at Wembley for these 2 for what in effect is a good day out? ....Just to put it in perspective the losing semi-finalists were Bury and Bristol Rovers...a 30,000 turnout at best and 20,000 of them from Bristol!

Should be quite an occasion. I remember being at Fratton Park in front of 20000 in the 4th division as a mildly terrified 15 year old lad. Got a bit of a beating that day - the only time that’s happened to me at a match. (Town also took quite a beating that day.)

I think they called it the Sherpa Van trophy back then, but an old Wolves-supporting acquaintance of mine was always telling me they had 80 000 at Wembley against Burnley in the early 80s - think Pompey and Sunderland might push that close.

According to Wiki it's the 3rd most prestigious knockout trophy in english football after the FA Cup and the EFL (League Cup). Which makes it sound quite magnificent!

Thought that accolade might have gone to the Charity Shield knockout match; even if it is just one game, there is a trophy at the end of it. Think Town only ever played one Charity Shield game, back in the 20s - as Cup winners. Can't remember who it was against though?

I'm going to have to stand my ground for now mate...google it and it says EFL Trophy Final...I'll give you the Trophy bit fair enough and I think it's sponsored by Checkatrade...but definitely says EFL..I feel a bit of a debate coming on!

Tinpot paint Trophy final 2019. How dare you Tedward! My first ever visit to Wembley to watch my beloved Huddersfield Town back in the 90's was for this very trophy (or similar for the pedants!) losing on pens to Swansea...Phil Robinson offered to throw me his losers medal as he left the pitch but I turned it down as I knew there were future winners medals to come

We can take the piss a bit now but it was a good day out at Wembley even though we got beaten. Paved the way for a more important and successful visit the season after. Prem teams putting their reserves in it has spoiled it recently though.

Pork pie hats and all. The only real kicking i ever took was Bradford away...and i was 14. Somehow stayed on my feet to a haymaker in the Chesterfield end. I was never really a hooligan but i suppose i was fascinated by it and i enjoyed the revelry and rivalry. Boys will be boys.

I remember the 3 points ahead song gradually morphing into 1 point ahead as we conceded the 4th goal!

I think you're getting your medication mixed up Oti lad I'm talking about the game down at Fratton Park mate which was a different proposition altogether to what you're on about which was the home game when Pompey ran in to the main terrace......soon to be shifted by the Town boys when the Wagon and Horses emptied at about 5 to 3
