What is with peoples weird obsessions with bringing ex players back. A perceived lower risk as we know already what they can and can’t do. And a distinct lack of ambition.

I don't get some peoples opinions on Smithies. He's more than capable to play for us and play for a team that can challenge for the top 6 in the Championship.
Wells on the other hand.. No thank you. I have a feeling that Grant will be quality next season a similar player to Andre Gray in the Championship.

Smithies would be a decent goalie in the Championship .A favourite at Loftus Rd. No Nahki for me.Think we need someone along the lines of Glenn Murray to partner Grant.🐶 Whilst I’m excited at prospect of the youth that JS will develop, I agree, we’d do well to have some experience across all areas to tutor the younger lads...

I’d certainly bring back hefele - solid championship defender, obviously loved the club and has the much needed character that we seem to have lost during our PL stint.

Why should we discuss your fantasy? Next you’ll be asking us to discuss a suggestion that we sign Messi and Renaldo. If you think that’s absurd, at what point does a suggestion become absurd? It’s one thing to discuss this in the pub, but a bit of an ego trip to ask for folk to discuss your fantasy It's not a fantasy, it's just an opinion that you don't happen to agree with. If you don't want to discuss it that's fair enough, keep you mouth shut then. And I wouldn't sign Renaldo because like you I can't spell his name correctly, unless you mean Mario Renaldo from some ice cream parlour.

If we could get JR for a song and he didn’t want silly money, I’d take him in a heartbeat. Lost his way somewhat but not injury prone and could be a great foil for Grant. Still the right side of 30 too.

There are loads of threads about bringing back former players. Let's get them all in one place so that other people can respond with a "no, that's a stupid idea" in one place.
So far today I've seen calls for:
Smithies Rhodes Wells Paterson
Nope to all 4. Who's next?

To be fair I would have Rhodes back, rightly or wrongly.

I would take Smithies. Young enough to still be improving as a keeper and proven at Championship level. Unlucky that Etheridge has been Cardiff's star man this season.
No to the rest.
Some that did come back I can remember as hilariously bad moves :
Theo Delroy Lucketti Pelts

Kevin Phillips. We must have signed him 8 or 9 times in the past going by the transfer threads.

Coady I'd definitely have back. Much better than Zanka. I always liked Clayton too but I haven't seen him play for a while now.

Nope to any of them - it never works out. Players are let go for a reason, that reason doesn't change with the passing of time. Take Joe Lolley for example - definitely a marmite character - I liked him, but I understood that he couldn't fit sweetly into our system. Great player for Forest, but they are a championship side who will still be in the championship next season. Now if we are resigned to being a championship club, abandoning the pursuit to return to the PL, then maybe a different argument can be created. I am not sure where we are with that proposition though, and we won't know until recruitment starts in the summer. UTT

Smithies would be fine. Would welcome him back. Don;t see Lossl as being better than him.
Wells.. no thanks. Hes a lower end championship striker at best, and Id hope we'll be doing a bit better than that.

One player definitely Jacob butterfield he was absolutely quality mooy then Jacob then Adam Clayton “Was” being the operative word. Now he’s a tubby journeyman plying his trade at Bradford. One class season for us for sure, shame we can’t bring back players “as was”. PS he was also allegedly a bit of a knob.😊
