Here we go again. Reflection time. Goodshot was an excellent poster on here and he sounded like he was a cracking bloke who contributed in a professional capacity.
Times like this always make me think. Life is short; we are all passing through and the only inevitability in life is death. It always makes me look around and re-establish what is important in life. Family, friends, laughter, positivity, listening, sharing, helping and bloody Huddersfield Town.
RIP goodshot. You will always be remembered fondly on here.

R I P. Not sure if I have ever met him but remember his posts were always worth reading - didn't he choose a picture of someone wearing sunglasses - Johnny Depp?

Very sad news
Like Chris says he was an excellent poster in Off topic. You could agree with him or disagree with him without any recourse to personal abuse, - but if you disagreed with him you'd better know your onions!

RIP & condolences to his family

RIP Goodshot - I never met you but am sure I'd have seen you at many games over the years.

Goodshot was always one of my favourite posters. I wish we had met. Always considered and considerate. I recommended him the Aubrey/Maturin books by Patrick O'Brian...and he read all 21 in a year!!! He will be missed. Sincere condolences to family and friends.

RIP Goodshot , tragic deaths like this should really put silly, childish spats on here in perspective. Life is really so short for petty differences , we are all so lucky just to be posting on this forum.

Great poster. Sad news...
Folk like him leave a sensible legacy in places like this, the virtual world. From the short eulogy from the OP I expect his legacy in the real world will be much greater.

Pretty much my favourite poster on here. His contributions were always lucid, considered and well argued. I used to search out his reports of games I hadn't managed to get to as I knew they would give a shrewd assessment of the match with plenty of tactical insight.
Although I never knew him I feel genuinely sad at his passing. A true Town fan and a big loss to DATM.
RIP Goodshot.

Never good to hear of a fellow Towny taken too early, sympathies to all those affected by his passing. The Big C seeks out anyone, in many forms, fighting it myself.

This is really sad news. Besides his insightful posts on the Talk of the Town and off-topic boards, he was a regular player on the Prediction League board where, unfortunately, he was somewhat less insightful . Being a true Town fan, his predictions were heavily based on Town wins. When he stopped posting his predictions around Dec, I was hoping he was just taking a break from DATM. Sadly, it appears that was not the reason. Rest in Peace Goodshot. This board will not be the same.

All, apologies for the new thread but I've been asked to post the following by Chris Newton, a lurker on here whom some of you will know, to announce the death of a great poster on here, Doctor Richard Holt, aka goodshot. "Richard Holt (goodshot) had been suffering from cancer for three years. Sadly he passed away peacefully last night. Richard was a great friend of 35 years, when we met through work. He was a fine reader of the game, posting many perceptive and analytical reports. He will be greatly missed". I'd like to add some words of my own. Like Chris Newton, I too initially got to know Richard through work, all three of us were geologists in the oil industry. Coincidentally Richard and Chris N worked for the same company for many years. Richard started watching Town two or three years before I did, he certainly saw Ray Wilson play for Town, possibly also Denis Law. Richard later became a University lecturer for a time and then ran a highly successful natural resources recruitment website. He was a clever man. We would usually meet up at away grounds around the country, chat briefly about work, then chat forever about Town. Richard (and his wife) held season tickets right up till now, even though he found travel from their home in Cambridge increasingly difficult. Although I rarely ever posted myself on the politics forum on here, I know Richard was a very prolific poster on there. I think his views were respected by most. He was a good man, and a great Town fan. RIP goodshot. a very good and sincere tribute to someone you knew well.Areal terrier andwill be missed by many both within his family and the wider world.well said epsom
