Good to see him more like his old self, and hope things go well for him at Schalke.

Watching the interview now (there are English closed captions if anyone wants to sit through the whole half hour), good to see Wagner is looking much better seems to like using the word "cool" a lot! Only a passing reference towards his time in England from what I've watched so far, it seems pretty clear he and his wife wanted to go back to Germany after being abroad for a few years. Got a feeling Schalke are going to be a second team for many Town fans whilst Wagner is there - I know I'll be keeping an eye on their results (maybe even watch a few games where I can if Town aren't playing that day). EDIT: For those looking to hear his comments about Huddersfield and his time here, you're looking for between 22:00 and 28:00. Very complimentary about our successes and the community and spirit the club projected, but not all that impressed with our marketing department and the "Wagner revolution"!

What a brilliant manager, talks about community and togetherness is whole thought process is so great and what defines how majority of fans want. But what makes him so special is at our club we really did come together

The tidy thread ex players and ex Managers of HTAFC....... Time for a merge of threads .I wish him well but no need for new threads on DW . The problem with constant thread mergers ( although thi would be entirely acceptable to merge with another Wagner thread) is you lose nuances of discussion. For instance my thread about collecting young England fullbacks should not have been moved into the general transfers thread for the following reason. I did't start it to really discuss the latest player we are interested in, rather more about the type of player we seem to be looking at and ho that is going to fit into the system we will be playing next season. If we are going to be predominantly 433, high-press with flying fullback/wingbacks is that the way we are going? By having the thread merged, all that sort of discussion gets lost and just lumped into to mix of dodgy twitter links to dubious suggestions with no discussion. I'm not overly fused and did not kick up a fuss but to much merger kills debates.

100% total respect for the man who brought us all together and was responsible for the best few seasons I’ve ever experienced. Never be fully replaced in my opinion.

This, from the Examiner, which I presume is a straight translation of the video interview.
Former Huddersfield Town boss David Wagner has spoken in greater detail than ever before about the circumstances that led to his departure from the club in January. Wagner was giving his first in-depth interview as Schalke manager to the official FC Schalke 04 Youtube channel, and covered a wide range of topics from his teaching career right up to the moment he joined his new club.
Asked how his decision to leave Town came about, Wagner replied: "One thing that has to be said during my time there is that we had an unusual relationship, especially between the owner [Dean Hoyle] and me. "I told [Hoyle] in December that I would be leaving in the summer, regardless of if we managed to stay up or not. I needed a break. "Like I said before, I wanted to reflect on the last few years and to process them. I wanted to have the time to think about them and I also wanted to take the time to improve myself. "I was feeling a bit stuck, and like I didn’t have the time to get any new input or ideas. Luckily, that was during a point last season where we were going through a short period of success, so I was able to have that discussion. "Unfortunately, the owner was really ill during that time so I wasn’t able to speak with him directly but had to instead go through our CEO [Julian Winter] at the time. "I told him early on because I didn’t want to go into the January transfer window and have them invest money only for them to then say 'David, if only you had told me sooner.' "That’s why it was important for me to bring it up in December. In January, they informed me that if the club wanted to give itself one last boost in order to turn things around, that they wanted to do it now. "I said: 'Okay, then let’s do it now. I understand why'. We agreed that it was the right decision. "As a result, I was able to use the time now that I had planned on taking during the summer. In the end, it’s the reason why I’m sitting here. "During my break it was more about taking the time to reflect, improve myself and to make progress, rather than saying that I was tired or that I was sick of it. That wasn’t the case at all. "Although I do have to say that anyone in England who isn’t as fresh in January as they were during pre-season should get in touch with me. Especially as a manager when there’s no winter break and multiple games in December and January. "But it’s always like that. In my case, it was never a question of liveliness or not wanting it."
Wagner was asked to offer a German comparison to Town to help put their rise into context for viewers in his homeland, but believes there is none that can possibly be made. He said: "I have no idea which German club hasn’t played in the top flight for the last 45 years, but won the league three times in a row during the 1920s and has a long history of tradition; or which German club has never had an international coach. I was the first non-British coach to go to Huddersfield in over 100 years. I don’t think there are any fitting examples. "The fact is that we started the season with the smallest budget in the second division - or with the fourth or fifth smallest budget - and in the end we were promoted via the playoffs. "Then we started the Premier League with far and away the smallest budget out of everyone. We stayed up during our first season which is due to the sense of community and the spirit that the club projected, both internally and externally. "As a result, it’s difficult for me to compare it to another club. I know that up until now, there was nothing else in England to compare it to. That's what was said to me. "So both the club and the team create a unique memory for themselves during those two - almost three - successful years."
Wagner also expressed his discomfort with the way the club and the media presented Town's promotion triumph as the 'Wagner revolution'. He said: "No. I wasn’t impressed with that at all. That came from our marketing department at the club. They sold a lot of T-shirts, mugs and who knows what else using that hashtag. They were pretty proud of it, but I wasn’t a fan at all. It was done without my approval. "A story like ours is always more than a one-man show, which is why I wasn't a fan of it at all. "[But] I know that it’s part of my role. I’m someone who will share or sell the story to people on the outside. To be honest, I think it’s one of the lighter sides to this business. I just see it as being part of the game.""

Great interview, such an honest bloke. I dont reckon we will ever see that success ever again, not in my lifetime anyway. It all feels a bit rubbish and after the lord mayors show now to me. At least We have seen our club in the Premier league.

Even know just like when he was our manager, I find myself stopping what I am doing and listening to him, giving 100% attention to what he is saying. Every word is worth listening to and comes across in such a powerful way and given English is his second language makes it all the more worth listening to. Said it before and will say it again, I firmly believe one day he will return to our club for a second stint.

To bring the return of the Messiah two things would both need to happen: a) we would need to become successful (with our then manager leaving for greater things) b) David Wagner would need to fail miserably at Schalke (and return to lesser things)

Really poor form from the club using the (sickly)wagner revolution tag without getting his approval. Considering the speed they churned it out, I wonder if Klopp gave his approval to all the tat his arrival generated? Link

Really poor form from the club using the (sickly)wagner revolution tag without getting his approval. He went mad. He didn't like it. I told everyone on here but was pretty much told "we wouldn't be doing it if he didn't approve it" .... And people wonder why information doesn't get shared.
