Wendy James from Transvision Vamp was my schoolboy crush. Had a massive poster of her on my wall - bought from Harvest in town. Bloody good band too. She is interviewed on a bbc4 programme about the 1988 totp that was on last night if you want to get it via iPlayer. You'll just have to ffwd through about 15mins of stock aitken and waterman crap first I saw that yesterday and have to say I think she is as utterly terrible now as she was then

Early 1970βs scooter boy. π΅(Batley and Horbury S.C.) Parka, denims, Ben Sherman and baseball boots. Went through a weird hippy/hippie stage with velvet split-knee loons and tie-dye grandad vests from Boodle-am in Leeds, my grannyβs old ankle-length fur coat and suede stacked shoes (Good news when youβre only 5β5β π) Went to my first job interview in 1971 at 16 in a crombie with a hanky in the top pocket and a rolled-up black umbrella. I got the job, so I can only guess that the bloke interviewing me (Norman T. Howe from Halifax π) hadnβt seen A Clockwork Orange...

Not aged well I'm afraid. What's happened to those lips? Still looked sexy as fuck to a 14-15 year old me in the late 80s with blonde hair, pink lips and jewels dangling from her breasts.

I was 16 in 1977 and the punk era was superb while it lasted, but was generally hated by the likes of Radio 1 at the time and was ignored as much as possible. Probably the best band I have ever seen was from that era , Stiff Little Fingers , I saw them at St Georges hall in Bradford and the atmosphere was electric! As a youth I would roar about on my Suzuki GT250 in a black leather jacket with the leather tassels on. I was bloody lucky not to have been killed. Being born in 1961 was bloody lucky , I still love the music of the 60s and fondly remember the Glam Rock era and fantastic artists such a Bowie , Bands such as Led Zep ,Deep purple, the Doors, and Pink Floyd made a big impression on a young lad. I never really associated myself with one particular cult as I have such a liking for many types of music, ranging through Classical ,Motown , Northern soul ,Rock , punk, pop and easy listening. Yes. Great thing about 70,s music was it covered many different genres. We were so lucky to grow up to listening to bands and artists that are still revered today.

Depends what you were listening to I suppose Some of my favourite records of all time were released in 1989 Go on then, give us a clue. Althoughyou're going to say Disintegration by The Cure aren't you? Which I can't argue with. Off the top of my head both Bizarro and The Stone Roses for starters Is baggy on the list?

I'm like, so sorry man, oh dude, totally sorry. Oh man!!!!! Just for the sake of education, "dude" is surfer language, not hippie speak. Perhaps you did not experience the 60's one might assume Surfers on the River Colne and the Huddersfield Narrow Canal, and their environs, were rare in the 60s and the 70s. Some hippies, did use the word 'dude' and surfers did use 'man.' I can't remember the 60s and 70s, of course, but my grandfather told me about that time.

Yeah I saw they were playing the Parish. There is something which stops me going back to watch old punk bands.. they were of their time is my view. Lots of fat bald guys bouncing about talking about "anarchy". But I might be wrong about that and maybe should go down. I just imagine Gene October being about 70 and still trying to look 30. I had never heard any songs before I saw them but I remember them singing a really long version of "the right to work" which we all lapped up .. I later bought Evacuate (Which i really liked) and War Across the Nation then they became dead to me again . Yes, watching old guys trying to rock etc, is disheartening. I know people need to earn a living, but if their popular beat combos haven't developed into playing something a bit different, or more developed than their original oeuvre, then they need to get a different kind of work. Turning out to watch the Rolling Stones and the rest of the old superannuated rockers seems grim. It's very different, I think, with musicians whose appeal wasn't based on youth, energy, hits etc......

A lot were but my not so guilty pleasure is girl fronted guitar bands so there were The Primitives, Transvision Vamp, The Sugarcubes, The Motorcycle Boy, The Heartthrobs and my personal faves The Darling Buds. Sunday nights spent listening to Annie Nightingale for all the indie stuff Wendy James from Transvision Vamp was my schoolboy crush. Had a massive poster of her on my wall - bought from Harvest in town. Bloody good band too. Ditto this. Had a 6ft poster of her on the ceiling above my bed. Waking up to her every morning at the age of 10 is probably what turned me into an absolute fanny rat π

Socially awkward fat kid who liked rock, metal & indie. I was massively in to metal when younger but now I don't follow the scene at all. I just listen to the stuff I used to listen to, I don't even bother with Metallica anymore and I was a massive fan, the new stuff doesn't touch the older stuff so I don't bother. If I went to see them now and I could pick the set list there would only be two songs post black album, 'Fuel' and 'Hero of the Day'.

Yeah, the black album was what got me into Metallica & the stuff pre that, I still enjoy. And Justice For All is superb. These days I'll listen to anything if I'm in the mood for it. Genres that I rejected out of hand as a kid, I got into more as a young adult. Now, I am thoroughly out of touch with modern music & I tend to listen to older stuff. Usually at a sensible volume. I think I might have turned into my parents.

Up to about age 8 Glam Rock: T-Rex, Slade, etc. coz of mam's music and only one stereo in the house. Turned to Ozzy, Maiden, Priest and the like after my metal-loving uncle came to live with us. Teens, got heavier with Metallica, Slayer, etc. Now it's Slipknot, Lamb of God, Mastodon
But I'll listen to most guitar music and have even been know to bang one out to dance music at Wigan Pier.
Disco biscuits back in the day meant you would dance to ANYTHING!!!!
Used to get loads of weird looks at Wigan Pier with my Metallica shirts, long hair and spikes

She hasn't aged as well as some, Andrea from Darling Buds is still a looker. I saw The Primitives on Vintage TV, when it was still going, and Tracey looked like Mrs Merton π²

Blackened is one of my favourites, Harvester of Sorrow too, Dyers Eve too which gets no live play.

Sound like me, prob just missed out on the true "rave" scene, but mid to late 90's Techno, House, Speed Garage, and best of all Trance was more than enough for me to have a good night out. I have a lot of it on vinyl and just reacquainted myself with a pair of Technics SL-1210s. Also have a fair amount of late 80's and early 90s Italian House / Retro stuff. Not averse to Oasis, Stone Roses etc either, Dance music is my favourite, but if it's good it's good. Dress code was Casual all the way.

Best thing on the 1988 totp programme was all about eve. Good of the BBC to admit they completely ruined AEE's debut but had the decency to get them back the following week for another go.
