That's where it is heading. And I totally agree, it will probably stop me bothering anymore. I wouldn’t worry about it. VAR won’t be coming to the football league anytime soon. Clubs don’t have the budget, there aren’t the all pervasive TV contracts that camera crews and high performing networks can be funded and provided off the back of, and there aren’t the requisite overload of available skilled referees to perform the role on a match day. If anything, there is maybe a slim chance of video refs being brought in to cover televised games as with Super League, but I think even that is unlikely. Good to hear, though I thought town were going straight back up...?

It's really annoying me how they're using it. I was so in favour of it, and I still think it can really help football, but right now they're killing all the benefits.
I still think 1 review per game for each team is the way to go (with the review retained if its successful), similar to field hockey, but they don't seem to be going anywhere near that.
But even so, speed it up and correct the obvious errors. That's what cricket does and it works. LBs which are close stay with the umpire's original call, and so should the decisions on a football field. I wanted the refs to relook at the incident originally, but now I think it should be a guy in a box who overturns only if it's obviously wrong. If he's taking longer than 20 seconds then it isn't obvious and it should stay as is.
Using it on keepers moving an inch off the line at a penalty is a joke, but ignoring encroachment at the same time is a total farce.

We all love the game partly because of its unpredictability. VAR is “analysis paralysis”.

Apparently it was decided, beforehand, that keepers coming off the line early on pens would be a yellow card offence. Now they've had to change that so that shootouts don't count to save having to send off goalies

This ill thought out tinkering with rules is completely unnecessary. That pointless change at the kick off for example..why?
