It isn’t adjudicating on the things that need looking at. It’s a bit like receiving a fine for walking round Town with your shoelace undone but having no sanction for stabbing someone.

But it’s for goal changing decisions...they are the stabbing offences aren’t they? Nobody cares if a ref misses an occasional foul in the centre circle...people get very angry at not being awarded a penalty, or a ref being duped into awarding one that shouldn’t have been. The only thing that’s wrong about it, is the implementation...they’re ignoring the laws of the game that state it’s for spotting clear and obvious refereeing mistakes. If it requires slowmo to make a decision, or more than one run through of real time footage, then a clear and obvious mistake has not been made.

Yes they do. “There will be a VAR and an Assistant VAR for each match at our hub at Stockley Park, outside London. They will look at those four key areas and can request from a replay operator any angles of incidents. The operator can provide them with replays in normal speed or in slow motion.”www.premierleague.com/news/1214130

On checking I've found that FIFA talk about "super slow motion" which, as you point out, is ridiculous when they talk about "clear and obvious".

From the BBC Sport website
The Premier League will not use video assistant referees in 2019-20 to rule on goalkeepers moving off their line to save a penalty.
Three penalties have been retaken at the Women's World Cup after VAR ruled keepers did not have at least part of one foot on the goalline.
Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) will leave such decisions to on-field officials.

It’s supposed to be for goal changing decisions and implemented where there has been a CLEAR AND OBVIOUS ERROR by the ref e.g. not completing a substitution and letting play resume is a serious error. A goalkeeper having a foot 10cm off the ground at a pen is not a clear and obvious error. A full back having to defend with arms behind back is utterly ludicrous

Why are the linespeople still running up and down the pitch if they're not allowed to flag offside?
Why does VAR check stuff that the ref didn't even notice? The ref should be asking the VAR room to look at something rather than VAR working autonomously.
There's no room for ref discretion anymore. If they say, well they broke the rules but it wasn't that bad so we'll carry on, they can't do that cos it's on a big screen going over and over again.

So VAR will be used to decide if a player is inches offside but if a keeper comes off their line to save a penalty VAR wont be used!

The big benefit to VAR is diving, gets rid of it straight away.
But all the rest, what a load of shit. OK when your watching a team you don’t support on TV, but for those in the ground as an experience, bollocks.

VAR won’t be coming to the football league anytime soon. Clubs don’t have the budget, there aren’t the all pervasive TV contracts that camera crews and high performing networks can be funded and provided off the back of, and there aren’t the requisite overload of available skilled referees to perform the role on a match day. If anything, there is maybe a slim chance of video refs being brought in to cover televised games as with Super League, but I think even that is unlikely.
