Sublime touch by Mounié on 1:32 to put himself into a goal-scoring position.
Should have buried the header, mind. Still, nobody's perfect as the Pope said.

Mounié's only issue for me, and it is a bloody hard one to solve, is a chronic lack of confidence. He is getting in the positions to score; he is good in the air - but then every chance is being snatched at or misdirected. If he can have a bit of luck first month of the season, then he will be an asset. If, however, he goes 5 or 6 without a goal, then I can't see him having a future with us. This may be true, the issue most of us have is we are just not sure anymore if he will ever reproduce his form from the start of our first premier league season. He got a hat trick in the warm up game in Egypt so maybe it is confidence and the pressure is telling in real games. Lets hope he shines in the rest of the tournament, if they get through to the next round. Yes, tough tie v Cameroon. Draw might just get them through as one of the four best third-placed teams. Will be watching out for that one live on Tuesday.

Do or die for Benin right now against the Macaroons. Five changes but Mounié keeps his place. Likely to get even fewer chances today than he's had so far. Good luck, Steve...

Uhm, no, they're through with a draw. Still "do or die"; they need something from the game. I didn't say they needed to win. Either way, one hour in and it's been yet another shocking game. There has been some bloody awful football played at these games. I suppose we sam blame the Egyptian climate...

After watching 30 odd minutes I was going to say exactly that (but would have chosen a different word to end the sentence ) but chickened out.

Congratulations to Benin anyway. Whatever happens now, they finish the group stages unbeaten, and against a couple of the top African sides too.

Benin might not be able to score many goals but their two centrebacks are quality. Quick, composed and good on the ball. A hard working set of midfielders, good defensive shape and discipline.

If only he could move in the box like Ellen White.Always getting across her marker and full of effort.Good player . I watched both matches in full...as a spectacle and sporting contest that I’d want to watch again, the women’s semi final smashes the AFCON game to pieces. Having seen the men struggle to control a ball, find difficulty to get it under control and do anything with it, and demonstrate basically no heart to make up for any lack of technique or tactics, we saw the women’s teams busting a ball with brave effort getting stuck in where it hurt pretty much from start to finish...sure there was some messy action in the box that was all a bit semi-pro, and the odd bit of loose possession, but in general they were miles ahead of the men in tactics and technique...and had bigger balls to go with it. There’s something I really like about a ball being pinged a long way and brought under immediate close control, and it wasn’t just one or two of the ladies with that ability. I’ll possibly watch the women’s final, I doubt I’ll watch any more of the African tournament.

But can Mounié play? Are the yellow cards wiped now that the group stage is over? Or does he have to serve a one-match ban still? If he doesn't play then there's no point watching because it sure as hell won't be entertaining.

What a save that was Mounie's boys in to the quarters As good a penalty save as you'll see, was that. Massive overachievement for Benin. Means Mounié will need an even longer break though.

Wow! Benin defended for their lives. And their penalties were all superb. Mounié back for Q-F match.

Imagine the confidence he would come back with if they won it. Better than a pre season jogging around canalside
