This is not a transfers thread and should not be merged with it. This thread is about numbers of bodies and spaces available in the squad given what Phil Hodgkinson has said in his part 2 interview.
Players gone so far:
1. Lossl 2. Lowe 3. Durm 4. Williams 5. Payne 6. Depoitre Puncheon (I'm not going to count him as a part of the squad)
6 gone so far. Players in:
1. Elphick 2. R.Brown 3. Koroma
Players who will step up from EDT team into the the first team:
1. Schofield 2. Duhaney 3. Daly 4. O.Brien 5. Rowe 6. J Brown (possible) 7. Edmonds -Green (possible)
6 out probably 8 in or stepping up. Yes it seems spaces are taken and need players moving out over the next couple of weeks.
Players with good chance of leaving (due to press announcements and so on):
1. Zanka 2. Hadergjonaj 3. Billing 4. Sobhi 5. Sabiri (no attitude problem, they just a made up myth, he's a good lad but Jan just does not fancy him as a player)
That would be giving space for about 2 or 3 more signings.
Players we would want to keep but might not be able to resist big offers for (players not actively looking to move but would take a big pay day move)
1. Mooy 2. Kongolo 3. Schindler 4. Hogg 5. Smith 6. Mounie.
Ben Hamer I would like to see leave, but who would take him and seems a positive person around the camp. It seems we are near the point of needing to finalise deals to get rid of players while bringing in the 3 extra players. I foresee a busy 3 weeks ahead.

No attitude problem but training with the kids... I have found no problems with Sabiri's attitude fully professional. It is best both for him and the club that he gets a new start somewhere else. He has genuine talent in there, he just needs someone to believe in him and get a run of games. Siewert doesn't fancy him and that's fine. It happens.

Yes this is true, Daly, Duhaney and Rowe all got some first team experience but I would consider that they had been borrowed from the EDT to give them epereince of a big match day and see how they handled it. I can see fro next season they will be in the first team squad primarily, fighting for a starting XI place and being loaned back to the EDT if game time is needed. A role-reversal in status is what I am suggesting.

A loan to a league 1 or league 2 club would seem the most likely option for some of them, cant see it happening until August, we will want them pre-seasoning with us, see what numbers we have and how they progress and then do what's best for their development and the squad.

Yes they will have a chance of breaking into the first x1 but the squad size is down by 6-8 no matter where the kids are based and we have only brought in 3.

Yay🤠 Another transfer thread.... 🥴 I specifically stated this is not intended to be a transfer thread. I was not trying to say specifically who might be coming or going. It is about a headcount given what Hodgkinson has said about players needing to leave to free up space for more incomings. Its more a headcount rather than a rumours thread. breaking down the squad I can see space for 2 to 3 signings at present.

You haven't counted the loans returning, VLP, Quaner, Sobhi etc I think maybe I should have explained through the idea of 'dead men's shoes'. In that the specific squad size and who has gone, who is currently here doesn't really matter to my point of discussion. Its more about counting the numbers out and the numbers in. 6 out 3 in. Around 3 to 5 stepping up from the EDT. Space, I reckon for 2 or 3 in until anymore in's will need to wait for other players to leave.

Struggle to believe there is no attitude problem, it's just that two separate German managers have not rated a Germany u21 international (who apparently nutted someone to get a move here in the first place).
Its essentially the same as having Kasey Palmer and him never even making the bench. Doesn't add up without underlying reasons.

O'Brien aside who sounds like he had a good year in league 1, has anyone seen anything from these that suggest they could make the step up to the 1st team? None of them really did anything in their brief appearances last year.

None of them really did anything in their brief appearances last year. yes. I watched a lot of the U23s/EDT last season. I'm not saying they are straight in to the starting 11 but in the squad, making the bench and then pushing to get a starting position. In that category I would put: Schofield (top, top level potential, he was already training with the first team keepers fulltime last season) he's pretty much there as being in the first team squad. Matt Daly: Special talent, again he spent a lot of time training with the first team and it as no coincidence he made the bench and then a first start at the end of last season. O'Brien after playing a full season at Bradford and was stand out for them will be stepped up to the first team squad. Duhaney and Rowe are more 50/50. I did notice Rowe in the EDT and by the end of the year had stepped up a level leading to Siewert giving him a 1st team start. Pretty happy to some money on Schofield, Daly and O'Brien being in that 25-28 man 1st team squad at the start of the season.

Duhaney, Rowe and Daly did very little in their time on the pitch last year. The occasions got to them. Schofield was average at best for Notts County. Some of them will probably break in at some point in the future. But if we're relying on them next year as 1st teamers in what will be one of the biggest seasons the club has had recently, then we're in trouble.
