On his day, Payne wasn't playing against anywhere near the standard of opposition that pritchard has been though. At Brentford and Norwich Pritchard was regarded as a stand out player in the championship. The fee we paid reflected that, though fair to say he struggled to make an impression in the prem. Paynes never going to reach those levels. Bit part squad player ,even on his day, in the championship is probably as good as he'll be. If Lincoln can hang onto the brothers who manage them, Id think a top half finish is certainly on the cards. That'll be a step up for Payne if he can cement a starting position. I know what you're saying but Jack moved up 2 divisions and cost us £400,000. Pritchard moved up 1 and cost £11m. One garden gnome was better value than the other. I'm not saying Pritchard won't do well next season but we didn't splash all that out for him to be good in the Championship for us

To get someone to really hit the ground running in the prem in that key, attacking midfield position, then £11m is maybe not spending enough these days. Think we'd have been lucky to get a player who can do it in the prem for that amount.
So even at that price, Pritchard was a hopeful punt. But with his record in the championship, we could still get good value for money from him.
I suppose at £400k Payne was value too, minimal as his contribution was. Bit like Quaner at £500k... his short cameo at Hillsborough was enough to make that an absolute steal, because without it we would probably never have gone up.
