I think we missed a trick with Jack Payne, I liked the look of this lad and he was a battler unlike some of our other prima donna's ..ideal for the Championship...he can shoot too.

How many players will play next season who have had 2 years of premier league experience with us ? Or even one full season ? We go into the Championship with nothing much from our 2 years in the top flight, does it matter ?

He's at a better club than the one he played for last season, with a decent up & coming manager.
Good move for him IMO.

It's amazing how much more favourably those out of sight are held compared to them on show.
Payne was a tidy player, but he struggled hugely from a physical perspective. He was shrugged off the ball far too easily and was even less effective than Pritchard defensively, which takes some doing.
There's a reason he's gone to Lincoln, Bradford, Blackburn, etc.

He’s at the right level & that is a decent move for Jack. Should do well under the Cowleys.

There's a reason he's gone to Lincoln, Bradford, Blackburn, etc. Probably part of that is that Lincoln City are an unfashionable club, small supporter base & recently non league. If he'd gone to a higher profile club at the same level - say, Coventry - I doubt that people would be thinking that.

Hes a league 1 standard player. Not quite good enough for the championship... bit too good for League 2. Lincoln seems like a good fit for him and the club.

Jack apparently has a refueling problem. A shame, because I liked him and he was better than Pritchard on his day.

On his day, Payne wasn't playing against anywhere near the standard of opposition that pritchard has been though.
At Brentford and Norwich Pritchard was regarded as a stand out player in the championship. The fee we paid reflected that, though fair to say he struggled to make an impression in the prem. Paynes never going to reach those levels. Bit part squad player ,even on his day, in the championship is probably as good as he'll be.
If Lincoln can hang onto the brothers who manage them, Id think a top half finish is certainly on the cards. That'll be a step up for Payne if he can cement a starting position.

Have to agree with this based on when I saw Lincoln late on last season at Crawley. They were pretty impressive for L2, played some good stuff most of the time, but were never afraid to rough it up or use a bit of gamesmanship when necessary. I think it’s a good match for JP, and I liked him.
