Boro were told by Elland Road officials that when Monk was at Leeds, the Yorkshire club negotiated a deal in January 2017 to take Fletcher on loan from West Ham, with an option to buy him at £3m.
When at Leeds, however, Monk would not authorise a loan deal for Fletcher and instead signed Swansea's Mo Barrow, a Featherstone client.
Six months later, Monk recommended that Boro sign Fletcher for £7m, despite the fact that in that time the player had made just four substitute appearances — totalling 53 minutes — for West Ham.
In the end, Boro bowed to pressure from their new manager and paid £6.5m.

Somebody with as much class, humility and respect as Garry Monk would surely never do such a thing.

Away from the potential implications about Monk, it's yet another example, albeit far from the most extreme, of the ridiculous amount of money agents are taking out of the game.
I really can't grasp what they do to justify the significant sums they are taking, which is worse because it also leads to inappropriate influencing.
We forget how young some of these footballers are, and in some cases naive/immature, so some of these could easily have their head turned by a dodgy agent whose earning potential is dependant on them moving.
You can just see Billing's agent pointing out twatty Tweets and comments about him, etc, saying you owe these guys nothing!

You have to be worried if your club signs players for £m-multi yet they then hardly play a game.
Hang on a minute.......

The strange thing is, there is no suggestion that Monk stood to gain anything from this i.e. there is no allegation of payments from his agent to him.
So whilst he is embroiled in the saga, the only allegation is that he didn't act on behalf of the clubs best interests; which is very difficult to disprove with such high-profiled names (its not like they signed Joe Bloggs from Bradford Park Avenue for £3m) and could spark a really dirty witch hunt i.e. 'you signed him, you said he was great, but he was shit and didn't live up to his promise and now we cant flog him so you owe us this'.
What it does do, Monk aside, is highlight the dirty world of agents. This sort of deal is very common, especial in Spain and Italy, and believe it or not it's not uncommon for agents to work on behalf of (and take fees from) all three parties on one deal, for one player (see super-agent Mino Raiola) - a conflict of interest party.
I would argue Boro didn't do their due-diligence. They can scream all they like, the name Featherstone is on all five deals, and they signed it off. Sour grapes.
That's my understanding anyway.
Nonetheless, Monk is still a prick and deserves all the 'class, humility and respect' that he affords everyone else.

To be fair you can't single him out although he is an arrogant arsehole, the whole system is corrupt. Redknapp (the dog ate my tax receipts, and basically bankrupting clubs as he went along). Fergusson making all players have his son as agent. Allardyce (i have millions from achieving sod all but can i have a bung). And although it isn't proved i suspect that many a manager has received a thank you card for signing certain people on in the last 20 years or so. He will get another job as they all do.

From the way it's being reported and the way both his past clubs are hanging him out to dry one could assume they suspect he might have? You would think when spending millions Monk wouldn't be the only person analysing the deal but they have to be able to trust their senior staff to do whats right by their employer, same as any business.

Monk issuing statements via league managers association against Boro, Birmingham & L33ds, claiming all 3 clubs are making 'false & unsubstantiated statements' against him & his 'agent' friend.....really Gaz, all these clubs are telling porkies about you??
