On a lighter pre-season note, does anybody here recall these games? Ah, the heady days of Town playing competitive games in Europe... I've just finished putting together a page of match reports, programme covers and rare 'LOOK INSIDE!!!' programmes. Link to my webpage

Violence on the pitch and on the terraces...sounds a bit naughty. My dad always bangs on about beating Sampadoria as we had won the European Cup or summat.

Remember them well. Reports where youโd all expect them to be if people can be bothered.

I went to a couple of these games, definitely remember the Bologna match where we lost 4-3 if I remember rightly. Aah just read the report we lost 3-2.

My recollection of the Anglo Italian games is of negativity and dirty play, even by the standards of the seventies.
The Texaco Cup was similarly, comically grim at times but with lower skill levels, fewer teeth among the players and less evidence of personal grooming.

I'm sure that the Scots on here will thank you for that comment!

Didn't Halifax beat Man United around this time, 71/72 ? Bit before my time but sure they won at the Shay, 2-1, Watney's Cup - dread to think what the carnage must have been around Halifax, Brighouse etc with a pissed off Red Army in their pomp, anyone remember ?

As a child, I remember hearing adults discussing the bedlam around Halifax.

Remember when we played Barcelona B team a few years back - anybody know if any of them playing made it into the big time?

Remember when we played Barcelona B team a few years back - anybody know if any of them playing made it into the big time? They certainly did! Adam Clayton played for 'Boro in the Greedy League and I think that Rhodes played a couple of games for them too. Oh, and Deulofeu went on to Watford and tore us a new one home and away last season.

Remember when we played Barcelona B team a few years back - anybody know if any of them playing made it into the big time? Luis Alberto has done pretty well in Spain and Italy after a poor stint at Liverpool. Grimaldo the left back is highly valued at Benfica. Deulofeu is well-known over here. Centre back Sergi Gomez is a regular for Sevilla. Nobody made it big-time as such but thos have done pretty well. A few have done ok, including the keeper, but nothing major.

Thanks. I told you many posters are unaware of them! Very disappointed ๐ I think I read most of those - esp 60's/70's (days of my youth) - but the 70/71 reports are not opening for me now - have I messed up or has something changed in your presentation?
