I like The Peacock, nowt wrong with it. Similarly, the Gas Club is alright and both are close enough to the ground to be able to order a drink 20 minutes before kick off! Some of our more discerning, humourous and handsome DATM posters drink in The Peacock. I'd go as far as to say the most discerning, humorous and handsome DATM poster drinks in The Peacock. Not to mention World Championship sportsmen. I feel humbled. That is very kind of you

Loads of good places to drink in the Town Centre on a Matchday, Not sure about places that are more suitable for children though. The driving range is vacant, would make an ideal 'fanzone', plenty of room for kids to roam, beer tent for the big kids......if only we had a massive Town fan who could supply beer pumps etc??

What's the Peacock like nowadays? Genuine Q, used to drink in there regularly, but that's going back nearly 30yrs... It was the good old ICI club over the road as well back then, for a game of snooker... The Peacock is fine but absolutely mobbed before the game, they generally serve John Smiths on handpull, plus a guest beer . If your wanting a seat get in early or you have no chance . The pies, Cornish pasties and sandwiches are very good and relatively cheap , I used to buy the pies from the Peacock and take them to the game as they are better and cheaper than the fayre offered at Town. The peacock is possibly appreciated better after the game as there is not quite the crush as before the match, the atmos is always pretty good too , unless Town lose!

If you wanted to look a wally. Tell that to the Geordies... Surely they drink it from the bottle?? Who drinks Newky Brown out of a glass!? I’d hazard not even a lady. I’ve been drinking since 1985 and I can’t say I’ve ever seen anyone use a glass!! Wasn’t the rule that when some turnip drinking Newky Brown sludge put his bottle on a table, you gave it a whack with another bottle so it all fizzed up and over flowed ??

That's the way it used to be drunk. Read my original post. Last time I drank this was a good few yrs ago & that's drinking with a bunch of mad Geordies (are there any sensible ones?). It was probably something harking back a few yrs beyond that as well. Have a look at the Geordie schooner in this article and also why you only pour half a pint and then top up from the bottle. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newcastle_Brown_Ale

Its such a shame so many pubs near to the ground have closed down,There was the Wagon & Horses , Market Tavern and the Spinners arms , which I can remember , also that little WMC on the corner which I cannot remember the name of.
My favourite back in the late 70s was the Spinners arms, and although not exactly a palace it did have a good feel to the place, not only that the very large West Indian barman at the time always used to serve me at 16 ,even though I looked more like 12.

Is that actually quoting someone, or the fact you've just had an early morning accident in bed? Newcastle Brown... The worst drink of all. Sure as students we all had a few bottles cos it was cheap, but no grown person would drink it by choice surely? The best mass-produced beer by some margin. 4.7%, always keeps a head and every bottle tastes the same. In Poland nothing is below 5%...only in nanny state Britain are you pushed piss at 3.6. Thats nearly water.

Not many beers at 3.6 these days. It is true generally all of them used to be weak as piss. Nothing to do with the nanny state it was the British market that demanded (or were marketed) high volume low alcohol shite rather than Europeans, more discerning taste, stronger but less quantity.
Newcastle Brown is always the same as any mass produced bottled beer should be. It just doesn't taste very nice. And I have regularly seen people drinking out of half pint glasses. Necking through the bottle top is too much like hard work, pour it into a pint it goes flat.

Do NOT go to the Slubbers - it's awful and serves really crap beer! Phew, that was a close call - I might get my regular seat and get served now (at the Slubbers )

Can’t see Phil doing a quick Q&A in the Slubbers! It’d be cosy but probably have better sound than the Odeon.

I believe a new brewery Tap in between Rat n Ratchet and Grove. Will be open before games. Opposite back gates of Fire Station. www.bosunsbrewery.co.uk/I presume that the seasonal ale "Back of the net" will be reappearing this season. It was presumably on the back burner last season LOL.

Can never understand why Bradley mills bowling club never got considered for the fan zone tbh. Bar already there, and a massive field.
