------------- Grabara ------------- ------- Schindler | Elphick ------- Flo H | Hogg | Bacuna | Mooy | Terry ------------ Pritchard ------------ --------- Mounié | Karlan ---------
Town have a bloody good championship midfield. It's the best thing about our squad. Pritchard, Mooy and Hogg are, when played in their proper positions, amongst the best players in those positions in the championship. As a collective, no team has a better selection in the middle of the park. Set up to utterly dominate midfield by adding Bacuna or Brown in too, and give Pritchard a free role across the width of the pitch to find pockets to receive the ball. A midfield with a mix of ability, aggression, tenacity and technical skill.
Town have 2 very good strikers at this level who compliment each other, Mounié and Grant. Play them together. Play them as a two with that midfield behind them, and provided our full backs get forward to keep the game wide, with that midfield behind them, we will score.
Kongolo isn't a wing back, Flo isn't talented enough, but is the right kind of fullback we need. They're what we have until January but get Terry at centre half after that and buy a quality left sided player. At right back we've got Hadergjonaj, Bockhorn and Kachunga as options but none are sufficient. Let's get in the market, find the player and invest in quality.
Never pick Quaner or Kachunga as the forward option from the bench over Koroma again. 1 of Diakhaby, Mbenza or VLP to bring on as a sub against tired legs, Koroma, Brown, O'Brien, Stankovic, Bockhorn and Schofield or Coleman.
When we're pinned down and need an outball, have Grant & Pritchard drift wide to a 433, but only until we're out of our last 3rd. 433 doesn't get the best out of our best players. Should only be used to give us a chance to break away.
There. No square pegs in round holes (with the exception of Kongolo until January because there's literally no one else), a formation and approach which suits our best players and gets them on the field, allows 2 up front and makes the most of the best part of our team.
Scrap 433, and if Jan won't then Scrap Jan. He's been shit. Pisses off and alienates the players, acts an arrogant twat, doesn't know half as much as he puts on and doesn't seem at all able to adapt. I want him to succeed, but if he can't do the basics, he can't do the basics.

Rant over. Feel better after that.
Last night was unbelievably frustrating and I have to work with a Derby fan from 1 o'clock today. Much needed vent. 👍

I don't think there's any evidence at all to suggest Mounie is a good championship striker.
Tinkering with formations won't resolve our key issues; confidence and understanding how to attack as a team. It's too late to start drilling all the positional intricacies of a new system at this stage.

Wagner gave us 6 defensive midfielders... we need to trade some of them along with another CB, LB, RB and trade one or two wingers.

It's too late to start drilling all the positional intricacies of a new system at this stage. No it isn't. 20 games in, yes. But even after 10 games it's only 30 points lost at worst from a possible 138. Loads of time to change things but for Christ's sake, shit or get off the pot. If we're under 10 points after 6 games and still look the same clueless outfit, it's time to change coach, even with the difficult start we have.

Don't like 433, never have, was disappointed not to get some continuity in formation when Jan was appointed.
He won't change it though, it's 433 and just looks a disjointed mess to me like last season.

You generally talk a lot of crap froggyterrier :-) but you are correct that many of our best players are not being played in their best position. There are 3 options as I see it. 1. Jan sticks to 4-3-3 and we probably say goodbye to Mooy, Pritchard & Kongolo in January, if not before. 2. Jan changes his style/formation to accommodate the above 3 players in particular. (This is not going to happen, btw). 3. Jan goes and #2 happens anyway.

I'd say 9 points from 6 games would be a good return given where we are with the current squad and their low confidence. <5 points after 6 would be the sacking point for me. Lots of time to change but a change in formation of the like that you want takes weeks of work on the training ground to get the details drilled in. Time for doing that was pre season really. A change in formation and strategy now would need us to write off the next few games until we get it right. Long term that might be wise but I don't see Jan doing that. A new manager certainly.
