My goodness a win would change peoples perceptions. Change though is necessary and required even though it is uncomfortable.
Right now the 'living legends' team that gained the surprise promotion and equally surprising surviving season has come to an end. Teams cannot just go on and on, they need to renew. As Ferguson demonstrated at least 3 times.
I know the leeway of patience with Jan is shorter because of the 2nd half of last season. However I did get the impression that nearly all the fans were giving Jan a clean slate and certainly give him the first 6 games of the season.
But it seems change is so uncomfortable that people throw tantrums after losing the first game in which we could easily have drawn (Schindler and Kachunga's chances).
Change is hard but keep in mind Dean Hoyle is still on the board giving weekly input. By common consensus Dean ran this club as near perfectly as a person could.
Mooy is a loss (not a unexpected one), I think we have recruited well. Let us at least see where we are after 5 more games.
Legends will live forever in the memory, time for our new hero's to step up and take their place.

A win isn't likely to change anything, a string of credible and encouraging performances would however give us some hope we aren't in massive trouble. To be entirely honest we don't have much choice but to hope that happens. The evidence to date is that Siewert has some way to go to convince he's got a clue what he's doing. Having just exited the Premier League I think it is entirely reasonable to expect better than hoping things come right.

I have a gut feeling of doom. I keep waiting for signs of hope from JS but so far, nothing to hang my coat on. I really hope to see some signs tomorrow but with Mooy gone, i can only see us being bottom three at the end of August and under huge pressure.

What you don't do is offload him to save money. I expected some players to leave but I expected 'reinvestment on quality, to make us a strong squad. All I see is a much weaker squad with few of the issues addressed.

The Liverpool goalkeeper looks to be a decent signing but the rest?

I think we need to see out the next 6 to 10 matches to see where we are. There's no doubt we are at a crossroads and I don't think any of us knows which direction we are headed.
Hopefully, it should become clearer in the next month or so and we can establish a style and system that suits our current players. In the meantime, our fanbase probably needs to support positively rather than indulge in scattergun abuse.

Right now I see a small bunch of people who have experienced 2 seasons in the Premier League sulking now that the reality of relegation has hit. Are we really a huge amount worse off than the start of the 2016/17 season? Yes. We had our chance at the big time and to some extent messed it up, to some extent we never had a chance. Let’s not forget it wasn’t PH in charge when we deemed Jason Puncheon the man to save our season Yes our best player has left but would he really have been our best player if he was sulking about not playing in the Prem. he certainly didn’t run the game against Derby. Expect more departures in the coming weeks. The clubs in a tough position here. All it takes is a bad start to the season or a deal to fall through for a decent European club and Schindler or Kongolo could get the call. What are we supposed to do in this situation? Have spent the money in advance and have an expensive luxury on the bench just so we could be “prepared” As the poster above says I’ll judge Jan in 10 games and I’ll judge the chairman as things pan out with this takeover and we see how the transfer fees collected are utilised Over the next 6-12 months. For the record I can only describe his start as naive at best which is a concern Here’s hoping the new Head of Football Operations can get a plan in place quickly and our next 2 transfer windows are better than our last 3

All I see is a much weaker squad with few of the issues addressed. So what you're saying is you expected a stronger squad than last season? What are your expectations for this? We're in a weaker league this season, operating with significantly reduced financial input. This is fact! Who do you expect to come in as replacements? All people have heard for the last 12 months or so "it's another defeat for Huddersfield Town." I think we've done okay to recruit where we have. A clean slate for JS and hopefully positivity to return over time. We need to grind out a win and then sustain that with grinding out another win. There's a lot on here who have thrown in the towel already after one game. It's becoming tiresome. One defeat in a new season that realistically could have been avoided. Mistakes were made and these mistakes were acknowledged. Give the players a chance to put it right. Hopefully starting on Saturday.

I'm sorry greyarea this isn't personal. But if you think there has been imbalance you think you need to start a thread to "balance " BUT your threads are never balanced . Hence they come across as self absorbed patronising and condescending . "Change is uncomfortable but worth it " really ? You sound like my mum when she was trying to force down my cod liver oil. Mooy leaving is a poor career move. It always is when a player who's at that sort of age and is beloved at his current club moves on. Staying with us and being truly one of us through this hard time would have cemented a legacy for him at Huddersfield comparable to Booth's. He's chosen PL money and PL games over that lasting legacy. Now he'll just be another ex-player.
If we are promoted, we should still sell him next summer. If we're not good enough for him now when we need him, fair enough. But that's his choice and we should wish him well in the rest of his career. But if we get back, it should be the players who get us there who get the chance, not a player who's made Mooy's choice.
The mood the the club is bloody awful right now. If we want to win the league, we have to act like we can and are going to. At the moment I'd sooner bet on relegation though.
Upper bottom half finish for me.

Where are the goals coming from in this squad?
Grant hardly touched the ball against Derby and when he did he was coming off the front line into midfield to get it. I don't think he had a shot on goal apart from the penalty.
Pritchard is not physically strong enough and is not a goal scorer.
Mbenza and Diakhaby can't score.
Quanner and Hogg don't score.
We can't cross the ball.
Kachunga can get goals but was on the bench on Monday.
Mounie has to play to create for Grant in my view. However the manager wont play two up front.
Another long and goal-free season ahead I imagine.

I love this club and am normally at the upper end of positivity, but how on earth can you think we've recruited well?
In 2016/17 we had a first choice midfield 3 of Hogg, the best player most of us have ever seen and 1 of two very good Chelsea England u21 international loanees. We've then spent two years at the top table bringing in riches we could only ever dream of, yet we've come back down likely fielding Hogg, a talented but massively erratic Dutch kid and either an academy lad or another kid who cost £200k and has no record outside L2 - The equivalent of Jack Payne. How on earth has that happened?
We've also lost probably the most dependable left back we've had in my lifetime, and instead of replacing him we've opted to just play probably the most expensive CB in the championship there instead, thus seemingly weakening two positions. Our back up in case Kongolo gets injured (likely!) is a kid who couldn't get in a L2 team 6 months since. Its probably fair to say he's worse than Holmes-Dennis at this time, who himself was never good enough.
We've lost the championship RB of the year the last time we were here, and replaced with someone who seemingly doesn't want to be here but still is cos he's crap and there were no takers.
All we seem to have to show for the last 2 years is an overload of fast but brainless wide players and a striker who's probably an upgrade on Nahki Wells. How has this happened?
We've signed a 32 year old CB who looks like his legs have gone, deemed not good enough for a Villa side that barring a late run, have spent most of the last 3 years outside the top 6. He might be a top bloke, but so was Hudson and he was 3rd choice in 16/17. Scant evidence i know but on Mondays viewing I'd rather have had Craney, our 4th choice CB from 16/17 playing!
We got relegated, so I do not expect us to be able to field a side as good as we did in the league above. However, I did expect us to field a side better than we did in 16/17 when we had the 3rd or 4th lowest budget in the league. We probably have a bigger squad than we did in 16/17 but is the first XI better? I think its undoutedly worse. Fair enough, the parachute money covers the wage bill as its intended to do, but by the time Zanka fucks off we've brought in circa £25m in sales. I refuse to believe we cant afford to spend that. Our best player has left on the final day and we havent replaced him. And dont say Chalobah, he could be excellent but he's not a creative, tempo setting number 8.
There was an opportunity this year. Yes the melaise of last season was always going to be hard to shake off but this league is wide open, there's no Newcastle/Leicester/Wolves. I dont think we've given it a proper go, just like we never gave the premier league a proper go either. A wage bill 25% under everyone else was always only going to give Wagner no chance sooner rather than later.

Our views don't match and i am sorry if my posting style comes over as irritating to you. Maybe I am overly optimistic when it comes to Town. The Club is experiencing the biggest chance I've known since the fall out of administration as from the 2003/4 season its been mainly an upward curve with a few flat-lines in there.

Think PH is getting some harsh stick. I have my questions about his acquisition of the club but let’s have it right in terms of background.
He has inherited a mess both on and off the field. By off I mean finances. On it the manager and squad.
Post promotion it hasn’t been good. We gained premier league status but had no previous or proven experience at that level in the modern game. As a result of not bringing Any in on or off the field it has actually proven counter productive. We can’t be sure yet but looks like lots of money burnt on poor recruitment but to the clubs credit they didn’t exploit their fan base or sell out in our brief flirtation with the so called big boys.
PH is 100% a Town supporter and he inherited a mess at Southport and made his fair share of mistakes, primarily, trying to make wholesale change too quickly and having a vision that exceeded reality. He also made a poor managerial appointment for the level in Kevin Davies after sacking the inept Mark Wright. He was over involved in player recruitment to start with and lots of money burnt for the level...£2m there or there about.
So that may sound doom and gloom but PH is bright and will have learnt from those mistakes and experience and football is football. The numbers just get bigger and the capital requirement more intense. Increased pressure as under both media and much larger fan base and scrutiny as he found out yesterday.
the Mooy deal made sense. Could and should have been done earlier and replacements sort, however, we have more than PH finding his feet at the club.
he has to be seen to support Jan from the off but he won’t be scared of change but not knee jerk as an immediate replacement will be required and probably not German.
So give him a chance. What deal has been struck between him and DH for me may reflect more poorly on his predecessor than him and if we were winning games then I’m sure none of us would be that bothered about the sale transaction.
prospects of a return to the Prem this season or next were beyond remote. The stars don’t align that often. I agree the PR stunts and gimmicks need to stop and heads down and focus on the business at hand. Genuinely this season that could be keeping us up. Reinforcements on the playing squad side will be required. Don’t think it will be Jan spending it either.

You seem to only see one side the same way the "negatives" can only focus on how crap everything is.. in my opinion we are in a pretty healthy position as a club HOWEVER we have won 1 in 27 and to my mind , after a SEVEN MONTH pre.season what we witnessed monday was a totally unacceptable performance .. even if we had grabbed a draw or a win at the end id have been unhappy because it would have just been papering over cracks .. But thanks for reading and being a gentleman even when provoked by the likes of me ..

I think we've recruited well in the sense that the young lads we've brought in look to have good potential and I like to see us make those sorts of signings. Elphick's only had one game so, as worrying as it was, we've got to give him a chance.
I think we've recruited horribly in the sense that we needed to bring in a few more than we have done, including some with proven quality at our level or similar. The youngsters should have been 'in addition to' and to fill out the squad. The left-back situation in particular really beggars belief.. Kongolo will do a job there no doubt but you shouldn't ever consciously choose to have a quality £17m Dutch international centre-back doing a job at full-back on an ongoing basis in the Championship. It's such a waste.

Can assure you not Phil. Recent events bring me to the forum for the first time. Long term supporter of the club and my views are my own. The 2 posts I’ve made I think will give you a sense of I have my doubts about PH but he is in the hot seat and I only care about the club so early crucifixion isn’t going to help. Sure DH is keeping more than a watching brief and one missed payment or over dilution of capital reserves and he will saddle up his white horse.

You have to wonder if the fact we didn’t have a director of football in as soon as the last one went has ultimately cost us in this transfer window. I think that decision is one of the main reasons why. Well thats just an ongoing fuck up isnt it. Months upon months of nobody and of the 2 in situ since Webber one was a twat and the other useless.

Interesting comment - care to expand on this - or is it watch this space with regard to the current state of the club when PH took over? Accountants and all that?

Watch this space. David Kirby who is now a Director is PH’s FD and an accountant. Some of it obvious on the playing side when you look at transfer dealings and what we got for the millions spent. Some would argue never a shrewd investment in football but ours weren’t exactly proven and at the levels purchased hardly likely to make a great return bar Billing that pre-dated and has been cashed in now.

Mooy is a loss ( NOT AN UNEXPECTED ONE) It was on the last day with no replacement, signing a new contract is bollocks , if you lose your best player you cash in. And you use the money to strengthen. What you don't do is offload him to save money. I expected some players to leave but I expected 'reinvestment on quality, to make us a strong squad. All I see is a much weaker squad with few of the issues addressed. I never suggested I expected a stronger squad than last season . I said a strong squad. And I don't believe with the players that have come in ,and those that have left its a strong squad. If you get rid of your best player then 2 or 3 QUALITY players are required, not untested players. You think we've done good recruiting where we have , I don't. Elphick looks slow, the rest are going in at the deep end at least 2 divisions above their previous experience. If you get rid of Mooy at the last minute it's got to be for big money.

Change is uncomfortable and is sometimes worth it. If you are not sure ask a Bury fan.
I don't think anyone expected anything other than change when we came out of the Premier league. I for instanced hoped that we would become a yoyo club for a while building up the club until we get a foothold in the top division similar to WBA. I remember playing them in the cup and they looked a bigger more physical team than us all over the pitch.
But apparently this is not the case, we are not following them or the Burnley model but rebuilding the team from young player out of league 1 and the German 4th division. We got Grant from League 1 and he did well for us last term but we can't follow Ipswich who rebuilt their team from young league 1 & 2 players last year and went down.
We are keeping some of our first team players but not as many as expected or desired and the replacements may turn out to be good players in time but I think that this season will be a little too early for most of them.
A lot of people have gone off the deep end in some of the comments that they have made but the news that we were going to loan out our best player was something of a shock to say the least. The final news on this was much better when the full story came out, but we were expecting players to be replaced because the club had people already lined up, or not.
there is some questions being raised as to the funds we have available, what ever the full story on that is we will wait to hear but I for one expected at the very least the funds raised in the transfer market would be reinvested not saved, used to buy the club or kept in a jar for January.
Whatever is going on in the club I want the words to match the deeds and I don't believe that they do at the moment. We have a very disjointed squad and it is lacking in areas that should have been addressed and playing a system that many do not believe best suit the squad as it stands.
It may well be all right in the end for us and for the Bury fans but only time will tell.

Sure DH is keeping more than a watching brief and one missed payment or over dilution of capital reserves and he will saddle up his white horse. but dean hoyle chose this new chairman so he is just as complicite!!!theres so many questions that need answering about the takeover and finances sumat doesnt add up to me 👏🐑👏🐑👏🐑👏🐑👏🐑👏🐑👏🐑👏🐑👏🐑👏🐑👏🐑👏🐑
