Any idea who's going to take them or should we just not bother?

There won't be a need for corners with the pin point accuracy of our crosses

Now is the time for Pritchard to become our star man. He should run the show in this division.

I'm sure there's someone in the squad capable of hitting the first defender every sodding time

On the subject of corners, I hope we bin the corner where everyone surrounds the keeper & we hope a deflection goes in.... we may hit the net a couple of times but I bet they mostly get wiped out, rightly or wrongly, for a "foul" on the keeper.

There was a nice graphic on twitter this week that explained the chances of scoring a goal from a corner. I first saw this interesting but nerdy fact in The Numbers Game" - Anderson & Sally. From what I remember, the chances of scoring from a ball crossed into the penalty area direct from a corner was under 2% (1.7% springs to mind). The attacking team only releases a shot on target following a corner 7% of the time. So, in simpler terms, a team that crosses a corner into the box will score once in 59 attempts. Data comes from the top four leagues in Europe over a number of seasons.
Strangley, the fans of the team awarded the corner suddenly go crazy, supposing that the award of a corner massively increases the chance of scoring - in normal "boot the pill into the box circumstances"... it doesn't. That's why a number of teams, especially from Europe (e.g. Barcelona), never cross the ball into the box, but play it out from the corner flag.
The only problem I have with Anderson & Sally's data is that they don't give the probability of scoring when the corner is not crossed immediately into the penalty area i.e. possession is retained. It would be better to compare. Nevertheless, I'd like to see us keep hold of the ball from a corner more, even if it means the ball occasionally going back to half way.

In our promotion season it took 11 games before we scored from a corner (Ipswich away)

i think i read somewhere that in our promotion season , we had 240 / 250 corners and scored the grand total of 4 goals looks like anderson and sally are spot on

Look at my post regarding the numbers game above. They say chances of scoring direct from a corner 1/59. At 240 corners and 4 goals our stat was 1/60.

That’s one area where Mooy won’t be missed.

If Pritchard takes that massively bumps up our height average in the box which is one positive to take 😂

That’s one area where Mooy won’t be missed. Agree 100%, I posted on here, if I remember correctly during our first season in the PL that Mooy was awful with dead ball delivery, nothing's changed because Monday vs Derby his corners were still rubbish. Not an anti Mooy dig, great player, capable of putting great crosses in from open play but his corners were (nearly) always disappointing, hopefully they can start to give us a goal threat again with a new taker.

Maybe it's because the guy who was supposed to make the late run in front of the first defender was flattened by their centre back and the twat of a ref just waved it away, as per ??

Both Pritch and Mooy were awful at set pieces. Mbenza took some decent corners last season. Wonder what Reece Browns crossing is like ?

Anything other than a harmlessly floated ball into the keepers hands or headed out by first defender will be an improvement!
Which has been the case for donkeys years!

Could we let the opposition take them for us?
Less likely to get hit on the break

Maybe doing like they do in hockey, just blast the thing in as hard as you can and see what happens ?

You can add throw-ins to that list too. The only time we ever retained possession from a throw was when it went to Mooy. It’s been a pet peeve of mine for years - when we have a throw we take ages to get it lined up and then just seem to play it off the cuff rather than having an actual plan - and when the opposition have one we generally let them get on with it. Does my head in.

Flo will be taking all corners and free-kicks moving forward That did occur to me; having said that he'll get blamed for them being rubbish even when he doesn't take them.
