I suppose it's entirely possible that I misinterpreted his words, but I'm not an apologist at all. If he meant that the death of a violent gang member in the course of criminal activity is less tragic than the death of an innocent bystander then whether you agree with that or not, there's an argument to be made. If he meant that skin colour is a relevant factor in determining how regrettable somebody's death is then that is not at all legitimate. I am giving him the benefit of the doubt. I generally find that most people are worthy of that. For clarity, I have seen no suggestion that Kiyan Price was involved in anything untoward whatsoever. You’re too generous by half in this instance imho. Possibly. I often find that most (not all, but most) of the hostility between people (whether from markedly different backgrounds or not) comes from jumping to conclusions &/or extrapolating an enormous amount of information from an ambiguous comment. The number of times I've had people make wild assumptions about me based on a misunderstood comment I'd be almost as wealthy as I'm often assumed to be. Where benefit of doubt can be given, I will generally do so because most people are decent. I do think it’s important that we don’t legitimate ethnocentrism or mass generalisations about people of a certain religion, ethnicity or social class. Absolutely. I don't disagree with that at all. I'm just saying that if you're going to condemn somebody for racism, then you should have evidence of their racism. Suggesting that the death of a violent drug dealer is less tragic than the death of an innocent bystander - whilst you may or may not agree with that - is not an example of generalisations about people of a certain religion, ethnicity or social class.Yes there are clearly links between organised side crime and some EU migrant groups but there’s lots of hard working folks too- some contributing a damn site more than of our illustrious indigenous folks. Absolutely. I don't disagree with that at all. I wish all my English neighbours took a leaf out of my Romanian neighbours' book for a start!
