A political statement for tomorrow’s game

Tomorrow we play qpr their stadium is been named after a young English boy of colour called Kiyum Prince who was stabbed to death out side his school during a fight to stop a fight
The lad who stabbed him was a somalí refuge who had been suspended from school six weeks earlier for urinating in front of the teacher those how go to the game should give big respect to his name and family that’s all I have to say

The whole,back story to this and how they put the naming rights up for a vote is fantastic. Football clubs almost without fail are an enabler for wonderful community projects, often without recognition.

This stadium naming will ensure that people outside of QPR fans will have some kind of awareness.

It's not a political statement. I can confidently state that nobody on here - whatever their political leanings - thinks that what happened to Kiyan Prince is ok. I'm glad you raised this because I was previously unaware of it, but the way you've gone about it is weird and unnecessarily confrontational.

What happened to that boy was horrible. There's a charity that's been set up in his name to try to prevent youth violence. There's details on what they do & the opportunity to donate if you so wish via this link.

He was actually called Kiyan Prince.....and used to be on QPR's books.

It's a depressing thought that, if all UK stadia were to be named after 'English boys of colour' who have been stabbed to death, there probably wouldn't be enough stadia to go around.

If you're referring to the comment on the politics thread about 6 months ago from our resident raconteur - I took it to mean that the death of a violent gang member is not regrettable on the grounds that he is a violent gang member, not that the lives of immigrants & ethnics are inherently less valuable. I could go on further but there's a strong danger that this could be taken way off topic (although that might be the best place for this thread if it develops as I expect it to).

It was named after the charity that was set up in the boy's name, and entirely appropriate given that Kiyan Prince was on QPR's books at the time of his death.

I suppose it's entirely possible that I misinterpreted his words, but I'm not an apologist at all. If he meant that the death of a violent gang member in the course of criminal activity is less tragic than the death of an innocent bystander then whether you agree with that or not, there's an argument to be made. If he meant that skin colour is a relevant factor in determining how regrettable somebody's death is then that is not at all legitimate. I am giving him the benefit of the doubt. I generally find that most people are worthy of that.

For clarity, I have seen no suggestion that Kiyan Price was involved in anything untoward whatsoever.

You’re too generous by half in this instance imho. I do think it’s important that we don’t legitimate ethnocentrism or mass generalisations about people of a certain religion, ethnicity or social class. Yes there are clearly links between organised side crime and some EU migrant groups but there’s lots of hard working folks too- some contributing a damn site more than of our illustrious indigenous folks.
