And hes allegedly getting 1.7 million a year for his efforts, how can the BBC pay this to a millionare many times over, and then stop free licences for pensioners. I don’t generally watch match of the day but I’d say that the Beeb provides rather better value for money than Sky who pay their presenters far more. It’s a classic case of blaming the BBC for what us in reality a Government decision. At least you have the choice whether to get Sky.

So he's off. Not really bothered one way or the other. Although he may prove in hindsight to be more welcome than his successor, depending who that may be. Mark Chapman would be my vote. That said, I now watch both MOTDs on catch up and also the CL highlights, and bypass all the tedious punditry!

I haven’t watched Match of the Day since Town were confused with Middlesbrough by Ian Wright. Their attitude to grand old northern clubs like us stinks.

I used to watch Match Of The Day a fair bit years ago.
Our time in the top flight killed it for me.
Listening to them patronising us week after week.
Not seen it since.

Like Stewpot and Impact,I'd be happy with Chappers.
It might make me stop fast forwarding the punditry and actually watch it for a change.
Just hope the smarmy one takes Richards,Shearer and Wright with him....

About time, might start watching it again.
I just hope it's a professional broadcaster and not an ex player and/or a token appointment.
Chapman the obvious choice, I thought Colin Murray was good on the old football league thing.
Kelly Coates also good but I think she's ITV or Sky?

Gary Lineker, good riddance. Never liked the man since he did a piece on Town in the promotion season under Wagner, he likened the Canalside to a working mans club. Problem now is who will get the job it will go to someone i dislike even more than Lineker, someone who loves herself that much it's embarrassing.

Like others if I watch it which is rare I record it and just watch the match not Shearer sucking up to Lineker.

Never miss it. It’s an institution, grown up watching it. The only thing I don’t like is the analysis after each game but if you record it you can easily miss that out. I’m hoping that the BBC realise that this is their flagship football show and don’t do anything to spoil it , like they did with Question of Sport.

Back in the 60's when i was a kid it was a treat on a Saturday night to stay up and watch Match Of The Day and i am certain there was only one game on. I like Match Of The Day just not some of the presenters and watch this space for a new presenter in this male dominated panel. BBC's very own darling is nailed on for the job.

I honestly think the programme was spolied years ago, boring uninteresting endless analysis and waffle, just showing more highlights and less of the presenters and pundits would be a massive improvement.

The goals are immediately on YouTube now after games, so I have no real pull to watch it other than after a night out and I’m sat down with a kebab.

Not too bothered he's gone. Don't mind him and like him on MOTD Top 10. Still watch the show most weeks. Chappers would be great on the main show.

I think they are limited in what they can show hence more chit chat.
Lineker seemed to be a good host but guess it is time to change.
Mark Chapman is surely the next guy - a fully fledged BBC broadcaster who has the respect of the pundits and fellow colleagues whilst of course doing so much football coverage already.

His wage was a disgrace, they'll chuck Micha Richards in as the presenter doesn't do any analysis anyway. He's at least likeable.

It was indeed like a working mens club at the time he wrote the piece. Wagner and staff later made changes that distanced the players from the public to make us more like other prem setups.

Should that really make a difference plus with the club looking to increase revenue why can't the club cash in on the public taking lunches and a pint or two.

Never really understood how he, and football presenters in general, manage to wind people up so much.
That said, I'm glad Jenas has been given the boot already because he'd have likely been the replacement, I don't think he was a very good presenter. Chapman will be good. Ideal is bringing Adrian Chiles back though, if they can pry him away from his wonderfully inane newspaper columns.

Probably the best pick but he asks a lot of stupid questions; was watching Sundays MOTD2 last night and they were analysing a strikers contribution and someone said he'd only touched the ball in the opposition box once, Chapman then asked if that was over the whole 90 minutes. Pretty obvious that's what they were getting at.
