Purchased a Town shirt for my lad and it arrived last Wednesday. It had his favourite player Mooy on the back. We all know what happened on Thursday. Safe to say my lad is devastated. Sent the club a message this morning NOT asking for a refund but asking for advice on how to remove it. Below is the reply I've already bought 3 season tickets and and 3 shirts this year.
Good Morning Simon Thank you for your email, we are sorry the printing can not be taken off the shirt as the spray we use does cause the colour ink of the printing to run into the fabric. We can not replace your childs shirt but on this occassion we can offer you free shirt printing if you wish to purchase another shirt. Apologies and thanks for your support Kind Regards The Retail Team

Surprised that they haven't offered you a new shirt. When Rhodes headed across the m62 they replaced shirts for people that his name printed on the back.

Go down to the shop I'd imagine they will replace it.

Leeds offered replacement shirts for those who had Roofe put on the back.
Town should be offering a replacement.
Disappointed to read this.

Seems a fair enough response to me. You asked for advice on removing the stickers, they explained there is no way to do this and probably don’t recommend you try as it will ruin the shirt. The offer of free printing on an alternative shirt is a good gesture that they don’t have to make...imagine if everyone started returning shirts for every player that left the club, price of shirts would have to go up to £100 to cover the cost! Not sure what the relevance of your season ticket and other shirt purchases are, the harsh truth for your lad is that footballers leave clubs and they don’t always do it to the convenience of the back of your shirt! Morale of the story...wait until after a transfer window shuts and then he’s got a few months at least next time. And in the meantime, there’s no shame for the lad t have Mooy on his back...people STILL have Booth printed on!!🤷♂️🤣 What next, free laser tattoo removal for everyone who had the old ?

No....they, and we, shouldn’t. Read the printing disclaimer on the megastore website, it’s pretty clear. What about Billing or Zanka or Lossl shirts, are we replacing those too? How long do we go back??!

Apocryphal tale and the single most important reason why fans should never ever have player names put on shirts.

You don’t believe the OP because it’s his first and only post and think he’s a Leeds fan on the wind up? Never even crossed my mind. Where have I suggested that? However, the sentiment is the same - put your favourite player name on the back of a shirt at your peril.

That's why it's sometimes worth having that Jack of all trades, Trialist, written on your shirt... 😉

Tbf if the club is skint it might not be so easy to refund. £48 will go a long way.

EDIT: I'll go with... The moral of the tale is never, ever put your favourite player name on a shirt.
OK?

Go down to the shop I'd imagine they will replace it. Take it back and say it's the wrong size..then ask for a shirt size they don't have in stock...then get a refund...
Mind you getting Mooy on the back given what was a well published and commented on subject that he's be leaving seems a bit...optimistic ?

Definitely a wind-up - when I went down a couple of weeks ago the staff were recommending NOT to have player's names printed on the back until the transfer window had closed - can't be any fairer than that!

It's a shame they're not like the OPE lettering on last year's shirt. That just peels off!

I’d be very surprised if the cost to the club of a shirt was more than 50p. Generic fabric knocked out in the Far East, stitched in a sweat shop with the branding put on by a machine. Replacing the shirt would cost a pittance. Pretty shabby in my eyes.

Town will have to purchase them from Umbro at a much higher price, albeit nowhere near what they're on sale for.

I don't see what all the fuss is about. Having an old Town shirt on for example at a game(with no name on it) is kinda cool. Great retro feel. If you have someone's name on it, like Booth, or Stewart ect, its still cool. In fact its probably cooler. I have never had anyone's name on the back including my own, but it would not bother me a jot to see people (adults or kids) walking around with Mooy shirts on. The best player that ever played for us imo.

From the megastore website, relevant sections underlined.
Important
Items with custom printing cannot be exchanged or refunded unless the product is faulty. Furthermore if a player changes his number at any time we cannot offer a refund or an exchange on this shirt (this does not affect your statutory rights)
Personalisation of Replica Kit
We reserves the right to refuse to print shirts that we deem offensive or abusive. An operator will contact you to discuss your choice and, if necessary, request an alternative. Please note this may delay delivery of your shirt.
Printing
Customers should be aware that sizing may vary from previous Replica kits. Please ensure you obtain the correct size before printing as we are unable to exchange or refund after letters and/or numbers have been applied to personalise your item. We cannot accept liability for any changes to players names and numbers due to transfers or a player deciding to change number or leave the club.
I believe this translates as "Tough Shit"
