Retired today.
One player I've been made to eat my words with wasn't happy at all when we signed him but he did the job we brought him into to do which was to score goals and to keep us up and to be honest i was genuinely gutted we didn't sign him permanently.
The biggest surprise i had with him was his willingness to battle for the team optimised by his goal at home to Millwall where he chased battled and pressed to nick the ball back and finish magnificently.
A natural goalscorer who had a bit of swagger about him, many happy retirements Jermaine.

Good bloke as well.
The double he got in the win away at Wolves that realistically kept us up was my favourite away day until Wagner rewrote the list.
Incidentally, we massively remind me of that Wolves side now.

Class player; him and Vaughan (fit) would walk into our side.

People talk on here about their favourite striker but the best striking pair bar none was Beckford and Vaughan

Proved me wrong also. Always going to be difficult for him bearing in mind who he used to play for! He settled in quickly and always looked dangerous for us. Can’t help thinking he could have achieved much more in his career.

Oh for a frontline like them two when we eventually made the prem.

They were fresh from the Premier League that season and seen as too good/too big to go down. Had a clown in charge in Saunders and down they went. Things worked out OK for them tbf.

Give him a job here as attacking coach. Knew where the net was.

Beckford was and is a star, all the usual suspects didn't want him because he'd played for Leeds but he soon proved them wrong. Not at all like his "arrogant" persona either, nice guy and a bloody good striker. Him and Vaughan were a great partnership, just a shame they weren't always fit, and as someone said they kept us up. I was talking to Simon Grayson recently and he was of the opinion that if those two had been fit, he wouldn't have got the sack when he did.

Beckford & Vaughan Rhodes & Novak Booth & Abbott Booth & Jepson Stewart & Wijnhard Stewart & Allison
All successful goal scoring partnerships.
Considering our crap goal scoring record of the past three years, the message should be clear.
Two up front is a must!

It’s been working for Burnley for a long time in an age where it’s not fashionable.Ive got weary of seeing Nakhi,Kachunga,DLP,Mounie,Grant battling sometimes three defenders on their own.Very few Wagner teams went out and scored goals. The odd exceptions are on one hand.

Not having a good technical pivot forward has been a hindrance. Depoitre could do it when he fancied it but we haven't really had one in recent seasons. The trend seems to be for pace and mobility rather than strength, hold up play and a good eye.

Surprised how good he was for us, gave it his all. Clearly meant more to him having come up from Non-league.

Certainly knew where the back of the net was.
Was a striker I always expected to score when he got a good chance, even when he'd not been particularly involved in the game.
Not had many of those recently.
