We are currently in a mess due to poor decisions taken over the past two years or so...
I think we therefore would all benefit from PH coming out, probably at the time of announcing the new manager, and holding his hands up and saying "things aren't right, my initial assessment was wrong, we are now going to reset and slowly, but surely, start again ".
We have to get away from the deluded view that everything is ok but just not working. There are some good things, the academy is ok I think and the much maligned Jarvis seems to have a good handle on the commercial side (learning from the past) but at first team level it's a bloody mess.
We can debate why forever but someone (PH) taking ownership, saying so, stating a clear plan (no rhetoric, an unfathomable waffle) and being accountable would be a good start.
Yes we are in a hole, but can we stop digging?

An apology and honest statement would be a starter
But he’s said enough
Pure - ‘profitable’: nobody can show me a profitable company Pure - ‘misapprehension I own it’: co house suggests he owns at least 2 key companies If we sell important we reinvest properly: £25-30m out. <£1m in Manager needs chance: sacked 4 games later
If he told me it was Sunday I’d check the calendar at the moment
He needs to 1. Admit his misjudgement 2. Apologise for not acting on his words over the summer
But quite frankly i’ll judge him on his actions not more waffle 3. Start being more honest / direct 4. His actions need to match his words 5. Sack Winter - get his own man in 6. Get new manager in ASAP - spend to get the right men 7. Support manager in January with reasonable funds for championship quality players 8. Stop talking about the quality of the squad - this is a relegation fight and the quicker the players and clubs mindset realises this the better 9. Leave the manager to manage / head coach to head coach. I don’t care whether Hodgkinson thinks Kongolo is a full back - why is he deciding / inputting into these sorts of things?!

He also said players might go at the last minute, and may not be able to be replaced until the following window. He said it may be a painful window. Are those bits true? Because they always seem to be conveniently forgotten.

Because they always seem to be conveniently forgotten. Don't weaken the bloody squad to the point where it's entrenched in a relegation battle. We've played games with Mooy - Lost them. We've played games with Van La Parra - Lost them too. There's far more to our being in the bottom three than just plainly the weakening of the squad.

One or two players are not worth being on the payroll or clearly don`t really want to play for us and are going through the motions.
Edit - --I had not read the VLP thread before posting the above.
