It amazes me that a country with a population of less than 12 million can produce such a quality football team. I know Scotland are pretty shit, but they were made to look like a pub team last night. Hazard wasn't even playing!

Hazard wasn't even playing! For small nations over achieving Uruguay has a population of 3 million and has won 2 world cups and 15 copa americas more than Brazil or Argentina.

Strange as fuck, don’t mind England but Scotland it obviously is. As shit as it is

Croatia the other overachiever- 4.5m population but World Cup finalists in 2018 and semi finals in 98 (finished third) Iceland also done amazingly the last few years

Belgium were shit for many years, it’s just a cycle, it will be Morocco/Slovenia/Colombia in 20 years. True. Back in the 90’s Denmark had a great team from a population of 5m or so. European Champions in 92 I think it was with some class players. Then slowly faded away.

Remember them dicking Uruguay 6-1 at World Cup.

Hazard wasn't even playing! And look at what Croatia produces with a population of just 4 million. Not just in football but also great at tennis, skiing, basketball, rowing.
It's all about forward thinking and investing in kids. All their schools feature a lot of sports lessons on top of their excellent academic lessons. It needs state money, lots of it, but it all comes back later in buckets when the kids grow up to be successful. Rinse, repeat. Much of it was set up back in the communist times when they placed a very high priority in education and sport.
Meanwhile back in Britain, local councils on the verge of bankruptcy, school playing fields sold off to supermarkets and housing developers....

England are good now. We beat ourselves up and underestimate our squad. People raving on about Belgium, we both got to semi at World Cup and have similar squads in regards to quality.

Hazard might not have been playing but Kevin de Bruyne was just ridiculous. Three assists and a goal away from home. England’s midfield isn’t bad but imagine if we had de Bruyne in our CM. I do think that’s where we’re lacking that little bit of world class quality.

Yes I agree England are good, but good enough to win a major competition? Belgium yes, England no. Think this current Belgium team are more likely but both could. Belgium have that bit of something extra in Hazard and De Bruyne. Players who can carry a team to victory on their own. We have a lot but don;t quite have that yet. That said , when this current Belgian side fades with age i doubt they have anywhere as much talent coming through as we seem to. Not sure theyve done anything right, just think its a freaky coincidence they have such a group of players all at the top of their game at the same time.

Belgium were shit for many years, it’s just a cycle, it will be Morocco/Slovenia/Colombia in 20 years. Yes,I agree,and from 2001 to 2010 they also ruled at womens tennis,Henin and Clijsters.Henin in particular won 7 grand slams{French 3 years in succession} and Olympic gold,she was World number 1 for 117 weeks before retirement.{the best woman I have ever seen,and I,ve seen em all from 1950,s} and a small girl in comparison to most of the Amazons playing at the time{and still are }...But now they are no longer playing,Belgiums women are nowhere..As you say what comes round goes round{or words to that effect}
