I wasn't going to post for a while as I had become thoroughly disillusioned with how things were going at the club. I have to be honest I was also not particularly impressed with the likelihood of Danny and Nicky Cowley taking over. I thought the challenge they would, and indeed do, face maybe a step too far at this time. I have to be additionally honest and say not many of the names actually linked to the post enthused me either (I was on record that we should look at Hughton - water under the bridge).
I have just listened to the press conference and have to admit that Danny, and his brother, have impressed me in their demeanour, with their words and grounded enthusiasm. They are both clearly considered guys who think about what they want to do, what is possible and how it may be achieved. I am equally impressed that they are confident enough to take the role on their terms.
We desperately needed to draw a line under the Wagner era. The Siewert "continuation" failed dismally. You can see why that option seemed best at the time but in truth perhaps we should have realised back in May that it was unlikely to deliver any success. We wasted a summer but we can't change that now.
Looking forward Cowley and Cowley are clearly in tune with where we are and give me confidence that have a plan for the short term (get the team playing together, to their strengths and look to build confidence). They have no doubt, despite the talent the players have, that this won't be easy. We (the supporters) need to recognise this and give them the time and patience to slowly improve things. It won't improve immediately for sure.
They additionally are thinking ahead, they definitely strike me as being realistically ambitious. If they can get things turned round you sense they will believe they can take things further, but once again giving them time and patience is essential.
What is most impressive is that they don't talk in cliches, they tell it as it is and you believe in them and that they believe in themselves. In a way, but not the same, they engage in a Wagneresque manner. They are their own people but they have that ability to carry you with them. This is very different to how Siewert came across and is very encouraging.
Although I have had my reservations about PH, and those largely haven't gone away, credit to him for standing back today and letting Danny, Nicky and Dave Webb take centre stage. The message I took was "football people making football decisions", long may this continue. I note PH is doing the podcast with the "And he Takes that Chance" team. It is there that the questions about money (what happens if, as is likely, we don't return to the Premier League?), "the deal" (with DH) and transitional windows (where are we now after the changes) can be asked.
There is definitely a lot of work to be done and a long way to go but as I said with PH; "you never get a 2nd chance to make a 1st impression". Today the Cowley's gave me the impression we now had a chance to look forward, build on the past but to leave it behind at the same time. It feels a line has indeed been drawn. Given the space and support we might have taken the first steps towards a more positive future when a few days ago things looked decidedly gloomy.

I certainly feel that the energy is still in the crowd, they just want to unleash it on something that they can believe in.
The team, more than anything else, want to see a new beginning - a way of letting go of the past.
I like the way the brothers are aligned, should help getting to understand the team much easier.

Got to say when i heard we where linked to the Cowley brothers i started to read up on them to see what they where about. When it looked like we had missed out on them I have to admit I did feel a bit disappointed, as the other run of the mill candidates being linked seemed less likely to fit in to what we needed. The fact they wanted to have more control over the whole club, and wanted it to be a long term project makes me think they are the right people to turn this club around!

But if this is all true, hopefully we’ve made the right appointment. Hope this is the lift the club are in dire need of.
