Yet if he'd had said yes to Phil, what would the reaction be? Good appointment most likely.

He’s a manager that’s all about himself.. Definitely isn’t what we need. Somebody will fall for it though and he’ll get his payday no doubt, which I suppose is all he’s interested in.

Town have said Cowley was the number 1 target of 4 they were interested in. They probably approached all 4 to at least sound them out, or interviewed them.
They won't want people to think Cowley was 2nd 3rd or 4th choice for the job
Bowyer says Town offered him the job and he turned it down , which would have made him our number 1 target of the 4 in essence.
He'll want people to think other clubs want him and Charlton fans to think he turned down offers to stay with them.
Youve got to think Towns version is much more likely, for the main reason that I don;t understand why Bowyer would have been the number 1 target.
Hes done a good job at charlton, can;t deny that, but one promotion through the L1 play offs isn;t usually a feat that would send you to the top of someone at our levels wanted list, especially when you have a dubious reputation as a character and are closely associated with our main local rival.
Although that one promotion was at a higher level than theyve yet managed, it doesn;t begin to stand up against what the Cowleys have achieved in their managerial career. Not even close.
I think for his own purposes, Bowyer is stretching the meaning of our enquiry about him quite a bit.

Most recently Huddersfield expressed a strong interest in bringing the 42-year-old to the John Smith’s Stadium – which would have seen him get a significant wage increase – but Bowyer, who admitted he was ‘tempted’ by the possibility, remained loyal to the Addicks. It wouldn't be a 'possibility' if he'd actually been offered the job would it? |

Bloody glad we didn't appoint him.
Not just the connection with that lot from Beeston, but it would be such a departure from what has made this club great over the last few years. Breakfast clubs, charity events & whatnot - to then employ a violent racist thug (even if he proved successful) would be to sour all that work imo.
I want a club I can be proud of. Whatever the standard of football.

I'd hope he'd changed his ways & that I'd missed him denouncing his past, plus I'd recognise that he probably does have a bright future in the game, but I would be concerned about bringing in somebody with his baggage. |

Bowyer was on the very short list but always behind the Cowley boys. If he was on the shortlist then he will have had to apply for it, and going by the podcast interview Phil says they spoke to the shortlist. Putting this all together it would seem like a man applied for a job, was close but didn’t quite get it and then has gone out of his way to tell the world it was him who didn’t want the job. Bullet dodged. |
