I can't blame the referee for that one. When I watched in real time I thought Chalobah's appeal that he hadn't touched him was laughable. Contact was clear... or so I thought. Watching back on the replay - yep, Pereira was cheating. When there are cameras at every ground, I see no excuse for not issuing retrospective punishments for that sort of thing. Yes but the ref doesn't watch the game from a camera high above the pitch. That was terrible officiating. You seen it from the refs angle have you?

The ref made a decision that I don't believe would have been any different than any other official would have made. What is unfair is no action will be taken to right the wrong.

It was obvious from my position in the away end. Hard to believe the ref (who actually generally did OK) couldn’t see it was an act.

It was a foul by Chalobah - you can clearly see he didn't touch him! Thats the new rule - like the one when the guy went down under the challenge from Van La Para - by the corner flag!

I like the commentators line "the intent was there". I go out intending to pull every weekend.. But do I?

VAR would have given a clear penalty for that.

I completely agree "the intent was there" - the intent not to touch him.

Real life - people can see behavioural things that after being watched a few times, they form an opinion that's based on evidence. No action replays, that assessment is formed over time & with a fading memory of the first time they saw the behaviours appear.
Football - Referees have the ability to review replay after replay of cheating bastards, but for some reason allow them to cheat regardless of what their minds are telling them about these players being serial cheating bastards.
We have a money laden game, that even at Championship level, has enough sloshing about to try and enforce some retrospective punishment, irrespective of punishment at the time.
But the powers that be aren't interested in creating a level playing field...

Ref's angle is even worse than the one I had & I was fooled. It was a convincing dive. Back to my earlier point. Referees are human & even the best ones in the world make mistakes. There are cameras in the ground that can pick these up, and whilst there's probably nothing you can do during the game (see the impact of VAR for details), I see no reason why retrospective punishments (or retrospective appeals against unjust punishments) could not be applied. In all cases, red or yellow card offences.
