There have been instances where this hasn’t been the case (eg big money wasted recently on Mbenza & Diakhaby and funds found to pay Simpson’s wages) but I get what you’re saying and I go back to the days of Keith Longbottom being Chairman. Generally, we have as a club over the last 40 years never speculated to accumulate or pushed the boat out when it could have made the difference. Is it a Yorkshire thing? Well you know what they say about Yorkshire people and money... Rubery did and the club was loaded for 6 months. Then it imploded. Just when we should have been strengthening in the January transfer window we got rid of Stewart. At least Rubery never asked for his money back! 😉

He could have had about £2.50 a week off us for the rest of his life.

Just not sure 'I told you so' and a load of abuse re previous management is going to make a gnats bollock of difference to what's going on now. We had chances to score today, we were given a right old hand up against Stoke and failed to take it. The requirement is for enough movement in to gain enough points to stay up and use the next and longer window and pre season to push through the enema and seed change needed at the club. Pointing out in hindsight the dropped bollox and wastes of money that have gone before and trying to apportion blame is unhelpful and a bit of a waste of time?

Danny confirms "we're very close to 1 or 2" on Radio Leeds We were close to two on Thursday, One on friday and now 1 or 2 on monday.... basically we are bringing 5 in, trying for no.1 targets, but might end up with target 5 or 6.

I said I was leaving, didn't say never posting again. Big difference. I've left datm quite a few times over the years. Sometimes I need a break from folks like you. The good people of datm are worth coming back for though. Maynard, don't be put off by the resident fools. I appreciate any snippets I can get. I live abroad and the lack of official news is at times difficult to take and it does make you wonder what is going on. So to hear from you that there is a lot going on behind the scenes is a little bit of encouragement. DATM can be depressing at times! Couldn't have phrased it better myself. DATM has far too many neanderthals these days Some of us really appreciate your input Maynard - long may it continue (please)

If the cowleys are not backed in this window, I think they will walk at the end of the season. Interesting comment, the biggest problems being the use of the words "I" and "think". Scientific Breakthrough - Mankind has learnt how to tell when someone is stating their opinion.

But they wont be going off the bill yet.....most if not all of the above will go on loan with wages subsidised here initially. Who's seriously going to pay for the sprint bros?! Kongolo may go but will clubs pay him more than here and an eight figure tf fee? I doubt it. Even with them on the wage bill it's still well on the right side when we're receiving £40+ million in parachute payments plus the £20 odd million we've received in transfer fees so far. I'd be surprised if our current wage bill is much over £25 million The only reason money is tight is because we're having to find £50million to give back to Dean But we dont receive the 20million in transfer fees this year. Its paid over the term of the contract and in yr 1 post tax it's not cash positive!

Clubs dont wait a year or so to bring in a decent replacements if an assets sold. I didnt think there would be much positive movement in January but theres still time. I will certainly start questioning things if we have a similar summer of transfers though.

I was also under the impression that he had written off quite a bit of brass, The conundrum being that if he did call it in we could go under as we couldn't possibly pay him and carry on.

That was always my understanding too. Rubery gets a bad rap from some Town fans but he didn’t seem to have much idea how to run a football club, hence the reason he brought that little turd Ian Ayre with him. And wasn’t it down to Bruce we sold Stewart?

Taken from the bbc website at the time..... Huddersfield Town have been saved from liquidation after ex-chairman Barry Rubery agreed to waive a personal debt of £12.5m. The future of the Third Division club was finally assured during a meeting between the administrator overseeing financial affairs at the McAlpine Stadium and creditors.18 Jun 2003

And that was when £12.5m was a lot of money.

I don't think the final loss on his part was as high as 12.5 but I think he did write off a sizeable chunk in the end, that was how I heard it at the time. Think the final loss was more in the 7-8M bracket but as someone said that was a hefty sum back then.

What’s a “bath tap”? Asking for a friend who found it amusing and would like to use it in general conversation ...
