I have been to 4 of them....more of WW1 and 2 man myself. Not an exact Science but I find the further you go back in time, the smaller the battlefield. Been to quite a few American Civil War battlefields. They tend to preserve them a lot better than we do. Other than the Normandy beaches. I assume many WW2 battlefields are hard to preserve or even identify, though I would like to tour WW1 battlefields in France one day. surprised I haven't done so yet TBH. You been to the Dardenelles / Gallipolli ?

Watching the World at War right now...must have seen the whole series 5 times. Living in Krakow you hear the jackboot often...echoes of history. Visited Tarnow last year and went to the bathhouse where Auschwitz's very first victims were transported from. The loss of current freedoms weigh heavy on me.....everything I abhor.

Not sure this helps.

For that "like" otium (EPBS) I've a quiz that is hopefully right up your street. 1. What was the operational codename for the Normandy landings often referred to as D-Day? 2. What was the name of the main site for British codebreakers during World War II? And which TWO German cipher machines were the most important to have their codes broken? 3. The Enola Gay was the name of the B-29 bomber that dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima, but what was the name given to the aircraft that dropped the atomic bomb on Nagasaki 3 days later? 4. Which battle of WWII remains the largest armoured battle of all time? 5. Can you give the month and the year of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor? 6. What event is often called the September Campaign? 7. In 1942, which country was awarded the George Cross by the United Kingdom for its peoples' endurance and bravery? 8. Can you name the Emperor that led Japan during World War Two? 9. Who invented the bouncing bomb? And what was the name of the operation to breach The Mohne and Edersee Dams using them? 10. How many Japanese aircraft carriers were sunk at the Battle of Midway? 11. Which major battle of World War II lasted from August 1942 to February 1943? 12. Who was appointed commander-in-chief of the German airforce (Luftwaffe) in 1935? And what did he also infamously create in 1933? 13. Which British special operations units created by Orde Charles Wingateknown were officially known as the Long Range Penetration Groups? 14. Which WWII general was also selected as the U.S. Army's entry for the first modern pentathlon at the 1912 Olympic Games? 15. With the largest of British-led military personnel in history, what did Winston Churchill call the "worst disaster" in British military history?

Lived in Tockwith (next to Marston Moor site) for a number of years. The road along the battle site could be very spooky at times, with a good number of ghostly sightings. We did have a guy come into my village local one night very shaken and needing a stiff drink. He said someone had walked out in front of his car and he'd driven into him. He stopped but there was no one there. He was truly shaken up.
