Don't be so defeatist! We could easily be drawn against them in one of the cup competitions! You seem to forget 3rd division clubs start in Rd 1 of the FA Cup not Rd 3 and Championship teams don't enter the Autoglass.

I can't remember whether I was at the match or not. I had certainly started going regularly by that season. If so, I would have been at the back of the main stand with older friends from my street who I went with. One thing I noticed from MOTD was how bad the pitch was - and this was May. I always liked Alan Gilliver and a few years later, would be served by him on Saturday night as he was steward at Brighouse Cricket Club - other evenings it would have been Don McEvoy, landlord at the Crown Inn on Lightcliffe Road in Brighouse. A quick look at the stats sees that Town were top of the league for over half the season - after 24 of the 42 matches. Losing the final two matches was the final nail. I've heard that it is more than rumour that it was the board that discouraged the club from getting promotion back to Division One in the mid-sixties. A further look sees that there was another season where we lost the final two matches; we were hammered at Bolton 6-1, conceded 5 to Spurs, 4 to Sunderland and already relegated Notts County. If only we could have won those final two matches ... then we would have won the league .... by 11 points (and only 2 points per win)!!!!!! As if winning the title for the third consecutive season weren't enough. And despite all those big defeats, we also had the best defensive record in the league. What it must have felt like for fans to have the hat-trick of titles sewn up with two matches to go. Good cricketer was Gilly as well, opened the batting for Brighouse with a certain Brain Bolus (ex Nottinghamshire & England) who passed away a month or two back. Gilly was also in my Sunday league team (!) along with Bobby Ham and Pete Brannan ex pros who he roped in. To say we had a few ex-pros in the team we weren't as good as we should have been. Did you go in the cricket club regularly in those days? I did and The Crown too when Don McEvoy had it, cracking pub in those days!

just thinking back to the league cup game in 77 and im certain I was at it but I was young and only went to a few games a year at that time and cant remember for certain but if it is the game im thinking of they had a decent following for a night match and I seem to remember them burning a flag or something in the away end I was in the cowshed so hard to see, I wonder does anybody else remember the burning thing Yes I was there too. And I also remember them burning a flag or something similar.I wasn’t going to post because I thought no one else would remember it. glad somebody else remembers that as I thought I must be delusional, at the back of my mind I remember baines being sent off but with the passage of time wasn't 100% sure so didn't mention it ,thought their following was more 500/600 but again the passage of time

Ouch, A Club that was in the bottom tier 2 years ago with no home stadium, being higher in the football pyramid than a club who were as cash rich as they could ever have dreamed of only 18 months ago,, It cant happen.
we will be playing them.
