Maybe have two admins to administer all of DATM except off topic and have two separate admins for off topic? Ease the burden. I vote for Ted & Slapps to administer OT... It'll be like a virtual version of the old Gits... Statler and Waldorf 😁

My personal contribution to OT over my total posting history is minimal, that's pretty much my pattern on any forum I've ever joined. However I think both it and the subforum about politics should stay. Non football stuff will just end up bleeding into the TOTT section if folks have no obvious alternate outlet. It's simply a matter of admins being on the ball and moving stuff where necessary or reminding people if they are steering a thread in an obviously political direction that there is a subforum just for that. If the Covid thread had been moved to OT or politics after a few pages I doubt we'd be having this vote.

I don't think that closing the politics board will stop the politics discussions - I think it was set up precisely because those who post on OT were getting fed up with the politics board swamping the main OT board, so I suspect it would revert to type. I also think that having a separate OT board, with flexibility on posting OT subjects on the main board during the off season, works well - those who want to engage in non-football discussions can do, and those who don't want to can avoid them easily.
Politics/political issues always get people hot under the collar if they are allowed to run away with themselves. I think that for a politics board to work effectively, there needs to be a zero tolerance for personal attacks/insults - just delete any post that gets personal, regardless of the rest of the content, together with any replies that continue to make it personal. Eventually, people will restrain themselves. It might also be worth having a moderator designated to that board who doesn't engage in the debates, but simply polices it, to avoid (so far as possible) accusations of partiality.
Those that post in that board, and allow their feelings towards other posters spill onto the main board, also need to take a hard look at themselves as well. At the end of the day, if you aren't able to leave politics at the door when discussing other topics, then you probably shouldn't be engaging in political debates on a football forum.

This poll is now closed with a clear majority for keeping the politics & current affairs thread. This subject will not be revisited by further polls. I'll sticky this thread at the top of the main board for a further week before moving it to politics & current affairs.

Off Topic is a great read. Some top contributions from some top posters. Politics can be a horrible read, some real nastiness and would not be missed in the slightest. Yes, the war in Yemen is awful so lets ignore it and use "off-topic" to chat about Beyoncé's star sign.

Some posters aren’t capable of a rational discussion though and it leads down the shit ridden path of personal insults and disgusting comments that wouldn’t be said face to face.

Missed the poll. First thought was to bin the Politics board, because it's a cesspit - but then that's just my view, so why should I have a say when I can just avoid it?
Definitely keep Off-topic. Love the music threads, and the mental health posts - before they got their own board - were absolutely vital.
