I used to go through the results from the papers and I always remember looking at attendance's. Man U were always 56,000 and I couldn't fathom how they got that much in a ground.

My dad lifting me over the turnstile when I was 7 in 1963 and watching Dundee FC play AC Milan in the 2nd leg of the European Cup semi final. We won 1-0 but went out on aggregate. Our manager was Bob Shankly, Bill's older brother. Dee till I die And a Terrier too since I moved here in 1991. UTT.

Shoot 5 footballs that were lighter than air. Playing football with a tennis ball in the playground. Or an empty can of 7up. Either option was better than a Shoot 5, not that we realised at the time. Being shit at football so deciding to commentate on the game in the playground instead of playing. The smell of cigars in The Stand at Leeds Road. The roar of the crowd taking me by surprise when we scored in my first match.

Checking out the Australian results in the Sunday papers which they used to put in during the cricket season. Probably die to the pools?
First full game watched. England Poland 73. A seminal game. First Cup final Liverpool 3 Newcastle 0. First town game 74-75 no which game but Alan gowling was the main man. I loved world Cup 74 with zaire and yugoslavia locking horns with Scotland. But 78 in Argentina was something else with the ticket tape.

Loads of fantastic memories and will come back when I have more time but the 1974 World Cup is a stand out. We went to Todmorden for a two week summer holiday!! It was scorchio yet whilst my mum and sisters went out every day I pulled the curtains on and watched every single game live. A real football fest for an 11 year old lad. The final was my 12th birthday....everyone wanted Holland and they should have won really. So much exoticism in the tournament....Poland with Lato and Deyna...Zaire v Scotland and the joke that was Haiti.

First matches I can really remember were during the 1982 World Cup, when I was six years old. Vague memories of Robson scoring inside the first minute against France, the famous Italy v Brazil match and England going out before the semi finals, despite being unbeaten.
Town related, my first one was the Newport promotion match, I don't remember Cowling scoring but can remember going on the pitch afterwards with my dad and picking up a piece of turf to keep.
The first Town match I have good recollection of was the end of the 1983/84 season, when Newcastle took over the ground and a young kid called Beardsley ran the game in place of Keegan.

I was at the France game....did not see the goal...was it 13 seconds? Yep, unbeaten and went out. I have a great photo with a Town mob there, Ballbag, Rawcliffe, Eyes, Donnah and Westy. Newport, Shed packed, GOAL. Looked up and my mate who I had been stood with at the back must have crowd surfed as he was dancing on the penalty spot! Think Newcastle brought 12,000. Bedlam. Beardsley was one of the most talented England footballers ever....met Quasi a couple of times....what a lovely guy.

Apart from Town, FA Cup Final memories always stick out, in 71' Charlie George arms aloft, 72' Mick Jones busted arm, 73' Jim Montgomery unbeatable arms...….that was a good one!!

The Newcastle game was an eye opener for me as a kid, I remember seeing what felt like hundreds of coaches parked up, not to mention their massive amount of pissed up fans in the Cowshed and also throwing seats out of the main stand.

We were about 5 or 6 and a group of of us were kicking a football around. Kicking it as hard as you can and chasing until you were shagged out. A bit like football under Warnock! Anyway, I missed the football and connected beautifully with Samuel's knackers. It was such a bad one, the head teacher phoned an ambulance to get him checked out. He was off school for a week and I was traumatised. I thought I'd killed him.

I also remember the wall of death where a group of lads lined up alongside a fence. The first lad out at cup ties had to get from one side to the other whilst, effectively having the shit kicked out of him. The only survival tip was to stay on your feet because if you went down, it was brutal.

Kerby.
Playing football with a stone.
Having tantrums and legging people up (hi Bacca!)
Praying for football on that Wednesday sports show (Sportsnight?) and cursing when Harry Carpenter said it was boxing again.

First Town memories in the 79/80 season.

Also from the 1982 World Cup:
John Helm's commentary sounding like he was phoning it in from a call box on the other side of the world.
The Adidas Tango España football. Simply the best.

First game, Man U in 1971 with my dad and brother. All through the game all you could hear was 'United' followed by 'shit' from the Town fans
The feeling of awe on my first venture into the Cowshed at the age of about 10
Crawling under the snack bars at reserve games looking for loose change dropped during the previous first team game
Terrier Tickets

Shuffling in the turnstile with my dad, my head height barely reaching my dad’s hip, and getting in for free at Walsall. The first time I saw a police horse up, close and personal. Was at Bradford, it seemed at the time 20 feet high. The first time I felt the surge when we scored (I always stood right at the front as a kid, like you do). I really miss that.

Brass band on the pitch. Peter Dinsdale decking an opposing player and getting sent off. The aroma of pipe tobacco. Old guy walking round the edge of the pitch selling the paper with the "half times". Town winning.

The studs ripped his ballsack which required 10 stitches. He was thereafter always listed on the teamsheet and known in the pub as 'sore bollocks'.
