Would not be suprised if more teams follow wigan into admin especially those in the lower leagues They will appeal any points deduction and might have a solid case especially in these covid 19 dark days Need to sign a few of their better players which might improve their cash flow Wigan may struggle to field a team. If there is no money for players wages, will they play beyond end of conracts on June 30? And what about loan players?

This is all building up to going to the last game. Might be better for the old ticker not actually being there..

On a more compassionate note - you have to feel for the fans of Wigan.
Imagine going on that run of form then finding out you're getting a 12 point deduction.
Despite any impact on town - it's a shit show and I feel for their fans today.

Hasn't it come to something when we are relying on administration issues for our footballing survival? The phrase "Clutching at straws" comes to mind If we are to profit from another clubs misfortune then I would feel a little uneasy, but at the end of the day if Wigan have broken the rules then they should be punished in accordance with EFL regulations. On the one hand, it's a kick in the teeth for the manager and players, and everything they've achieved since the turn of the year, but on the other they may not have been able to go on such a run if they'd operated within their means. We'll never know. Exactly. Theyve been cheating in effect. Spending money they couldnt find. If they hadnt have done their team wouldnt be as good.

It’s ironic really.. Wigan are being punished for spending money they don’t have.. Whereas .. We have loads of money.. But we don’t spend it.. We just give it all to our ex chairman..

Looks like PH's warning of 50 - 60 EFL clubs being in danger of going out of business is starating to look real. So 1 club goes into administration out of 50 - 60 predicted and it's starting to look real? I work with people who take delight in looking on the negative side of everything and it drives me mad.

According to the Adminstrator, there's enough money to play out their remaining games and pay the players...also it'sjust said on radio now that the EFL have confirmed the 12 point deduction will be THIS season...(assuming it's not appealed..which I don't think it will be). it's hard to think why this happened..Wigan own theri training ground, have along lease with the council on the stadium and cash in the bank to meet their immediate obligations...i understand the Hong Kong owners have failed to transfer due monies...so whether that's to pay off loans which arenow defaulted...we'll see...

Hope that no team ever goes into Administration....We all know what that feels like.

They appear to have bought players they cannot afford, paying wages they cannot afford so have effectively abused the system to achieve greater success and they have been found out. No sympathy whatsoever.

So get off your high horse, it can happen to the best of us.

From what I have heard it's been a bit of a shit show at Wigan.
Cook got a buget within their reasoning and he's abused it and refused to stick to it.
He splashed signing on fees for freebies such as the keeper Marshall when he wasn't needed. The lad at Northampton was due to be their number 1 but too young apparently.
Players like Roberts and Pilks are on high wages and Cook wouldn't move them on.
Sounds to me like a chairman too soft to be stern and a manager who couldn't give a fuck.

Apologies if already mentioned, but when those shithouses down the road went into administration all those yrs ago, didn't they play the EFL to the point that they decided to take their punishment in the here & now, knowing they were virtually doomed anyway, so started the season after, 1 rung down, but on a par with all the other clubs.
There has been some precedent set with this scenario previously, it might not have been Leeds.
Fundamentally, this is really about ensuring it's a punishment for the offence and making it a true punishment, not a synthetic one.
It might be as simple & as daft as the fact that Wigan have come racing out of the blocks and the EFL & Wigan have realised they need to gain clarity quickly...

It will be a fascinating watch. I think if for some reason they hadn't applied the points penalty, then a lot would have jumped at the chance. There will be a lot of clubs in serious shit no doubt about it.

Let's not get too cocky. There's nothing I've heard about our club that makes me comfortable re financial matters.

Wonder if this will be making other clubs nervous? Plenty of other clubs with more money than Wigan that will be bending the rules and breaking every common sense thing about running a profitable business...

Plenty of other clubs with more money than Wigan that will be bending the rules and breaking every common sense thing about running a profitable business... Nope, they won't care. It seems Wigan's issues have come from money not appearing from the owner. Those with rich owners pumping it in won't care and will continue as normal.

It appears to me that this is just another case of a passionate owner (and listening to David Whelan today he clearly was) who built up a successful football club on the back of his own wealth but would always struggle to maintain this success without his wealth. And it has come to pass at Wigan. And to a certain extent at Bolton before. Yes we have been in Administration and to a certain extent have just had an owner who provided finance to take us way beyond our natural level so perhaps the selling out to an owner who appears to run a tight as he can financial ship rather than foreign owners on a "boom or bust" basis was the right one.
