is up with the pitch? why is it so heavy and slow since we’ve come back? Have we furloughed the ground staff? Is it tactical? If so why, when we have excellent passers of the ball would we elect to have long grass that stops us playing a quick passing game and makes teams want to play it long/in the air?

I said this too as it's evident. It's retaining boot marks and bobbles. Like a pissing cow field

It's not like we're a free flowing, give and go, tiki-taka, Barcelona 2009 style pure footballing team.
The pitch has got fuck all to do with this.

One thing I can never understand is why we water the pitch. It absolutely lashed it down over the last few days and we always seem to be the team who,s players are falling over. If it’s to skid balls through then who the hell in our team has the pace or inclination to capitalise from that!

Nothing wrong with the pitch. It’s the shite players with half arsed attitude.
Backwards sideways. Their touch is so bad we pass the ball slowly so they have some chance of getting the ball under control
I really fear for us. If we get relegated with this squad of over paid tossers we really might go bust
What an absolute shambles.

Thank god for that. On first glance I thought someone had created another thread about Pritchard. Misread it as “The Pritch”.

If it’s to skid balls through then who the hell in our team has the pace or inclination to capitalise from that! The idea is to have the grass wet at the time of play so the ball moves quicker to accommodate our slick passing style,it doesn't matter if its pissed it down all week as by the time the game comes the water has soaked into the surface and the water as evaporated off the grass, all the above is true apart from the slick passing style part

Do the opposition ask for the pitch to be watered??? As from your explanation there is no need for us to want it wet 👌👌

I said this, it looks like the grass is too long.
If you remember this has been an issue for a few years at the end of the season. I remember us watering it once while it was raining to try help.
A pathetic excuse but i think it’s been a big factor in games trying to break teams down.

It was patently obvious it was running slow, it looked like we were kicking a punctured ball around. But...why doesn’t it affect the visiting teams?!

Clutching a straws here aren’t you, the pitch is the least of our worries. I’m more worried about our inept coaching staff, club management and dog shit performances our players are serving up on the pitch week in week out.

Probably because they’ve come to play football and take some points. The pitch has been in worse condition during the past couple years, no way can you blame that for the shite we are being served up at the moment. They’ll be far worse pitches in league 1 if the team / management don’t pull their fingers from their arses.

This explains why he goes missing during the games....we can't see him as the grass is so long.

I’m more angry then anyone about what’s happening but i think there is actually an answer to that. A slow pitch favours the team with least possession. To break a team down who are camped in and set required quick short passes. Whereas breaking with longer balls not so much.

In answer to the ground staff.
We have/had 2 groundsmen. If you remember the positive Covid test at Canalside, it was one of those. The other grounds man was to be laid off the very next day prompting an embarrassing u-turn.

The playing surface hasn't stopped ESR playing at a decent tempo. That was part of the problem with him not linking up with others as effectively in the Luton game, he was literally in a different gear to the pace of most of his team mates.
