Irrespective of how much they pay Aubameyang and Ozil etc surely they have a moral responsibility?

Irrespective of how much they pay Aubameyang and Ozil etc surely they have a moral responsibility? They pay players and they take a huge sum from season card holders.. Staff on modest wages keep the actual club going, Ozil has never repaid his huge wages, his every so often performances for 300k a week do not in any way absolve him of it 'not being his fault' he is on this contract. There seems to be absolutely no performance related anything, anymore in football, you get paid whatever...?? Its eating itself and I have no sympathy for those running it, playing in it etc...

I am at a complete loss to understand your point. Players are an Investment, they can go up in value, they produce on the field to generate income from Sky, Bt, etc, etc. If they were not there there would be no club, no income , no nothing. Staff are a cost to the business, yes they keep the business going but in general generate little or no income for the business. So if you don't need them, you don't need them. This is the harsh reality of business life.

Slightly more back on topic, I have said it before, and I will say it again, I cant believe they are planning to start a new season without fans allowed into the stadium. Its absolutely farcical tbh, and I am surprised more people such as pundits and the media havnt talked about it any more than they have. I get WHY they had to finish the last season, because of the broadcasting money, and because there were too many ifs and buts about promotion and relegation and possible legal challenges etc. But does anyone have any real appetite to start up again, in the same way as we finished last season? (and I dont mean watching the shit football). I think last nights game at Wembley showed exactly what was wrong with this behind closed doors football. It was the showpiece event, the richest game in football, and they played in an empty stadium with some fake fans noise on the tv. The people you feel for are the fans of Fulham and Brentford, and you never know which way the game would have gone had there been a full stadium. You also have to feel for fans of Leeds, West Brom and Barnsley, who didnt have the chance to be at the stadium to celebrate their achievements. You could probably include other teams in there too and their fans. I for one will be saving myself a lot of money next season, as there is no way I am paying for a sky subscription for the football to watch that soulless empty stadium rubbish, and then a grand saved on season cards. That will be an extra couple of weeks holiday next year providing we can leave the country

I can't understand how League 1 and 2 can start again given that the reason for not finishing was they couldn't afford to without spectators. Has something changed or have I missed a deal to help them out?

Has something changed or have I missed a deal to help them out? No, you haven’t missed anything, no deal has been made, yet. I’m genuinely surprised that clubs such as Morecambe have been pretty busy in the transfer market (they’ve made about 6 signings already), and, so far, there’s been little or nothing in the press about any club being in real distress.

arseblog.com/2020/08/kse-run-a-business-but-we-support-a-football-club/If some of them are feeling bemused this morning, would you blame them? They were the only group of players in the Premier League to take a pay cut because of the pandemic, assured by those on high that it was necessary in order to save jobs. Now, just days after the monumental effort given to win the cup they find out that’s not the case and those jobs are going anyway. Were they sold a pack of lies? What about the manager, Mikel Arteta, who had to go some way to convince a squad which had trust issues with the ownership when these cuts were first mooted? How does he feel now? Does that affect his relationship with his squad, or those at executive level? For me though, the most egregious part of this statement was the way it tried to play emotional tricks on fans. This was an update from ‘your club’. Job losses were framed as necessary for us to improve our squad during this transfer period. It is there in black and white:

In Japan this weekend they started allowing crowds into sporting events again, but limited to 5000 people spread around the stadium, all home fans. Getting in involves queueing 2 meters apart and getting your temperature scanned. Masks of course are obligatory. Is that something we'd welcome next season if it comes down to it? I imagine 5000 town fans giving it their all on all 4 sides of the ground would be bound to offer us some kind of advantage. I watched the Kobe Sapporo game this weekend. How weird is supporter culture in Japan. Quiet, polite ripples of applause the whole match. Seemed more like a 4 day county match at Taunton. Yes, it's quite strange. The corona measures don't help much. At least you normally get a few songs or chants. All upbeat stuff, no hurling dog's abuse at the opposition or officials. A few years ago I did some work for the JFA and got to go to quite a few games. More often than not I'd be sat next to a group of teenaged lasses or an elderly couple all politely clapping away. It was a pleasant way to while away a Sunday afternoon, but hardly set the pulse racing. Then again I've never been threatened with a kicking or called a c*** at a Japanese football game, so there is that.

They can now have huge advertising banners draped across all those seats. Not sure how much revenue that would generate, but you can guarantee the bigger clubs with more TV exposure will be milking it... They've just rode out the storm, for most of the Chairmen, particularly foreign owners with no concept of the tribal nature of football, they'd happily play out the next 5 seasons behind closed doors if it meant no impact to their P&L and their books were largely unaffected... The PL is just a vehicle to sell more shit...
