Ben Hamer should move on. The club and stadia have bad memories for him. The fans do not rate him (including myself), it would be impossible for him to turn around the perception of him and every minor mistake will be jumped upon with groans and jeers. That won't help his confidence. He needs to start again at a new club.
Ryan Schofield: He has real high level potential. Because he was not allowed to play the resumption of the season, the Cowleys put him on a training regime of bulking up and building strength (lots of weight lifting) to be able to handle the physical roughness of the Championship in the forthcoming season. Although not a starter, he will certainly be fighting for that position. Depending how the season goes, he could win the job at some point.
Jacob Chapman: Aussie doing a similar thing to a young Arron Mooy, in backing himself, coming over to the UK and trying to make it as a professional. I've seen him a few times and he has potential (not ready for anything yet, so EDT and a loan out 2nd half of the season). I know the club thinks he has real potential and he certainly has the right attitude, self-drive and determination.
This leaves us needing an experienced keeper who is reliable and competent. Someone who can come in at a modest price but also someone who Schofield can learn off and compete with for the starting spot. A modern version of Ian Bennett, who came in to support a young Alex Smithies. Something like that.
The goalkeeping are isn't as weak as some suggest. We need a new keeper, Schofield has already developed into a better keeper than Coleman ( so effectively replaces Coleman as No2), Chapman then steps up to the development keeper/future prospect.
! decent experienced keeper and we are where we were, give or take (although Lossl for Town is clearly international class).

I tend to think you need 3 goalkeepers at a club.
Coleman, Lossl & Grabara have all left.
Hamer I'm disregarding the possibility of him as an option. He's need to be truly outstanding for fans to accept him & he's a Lg1 standard keeper. It would be better for all parties if he moved on.
Schofield: Not ready for regular first team action at Championship level imo. Either have him here as 2nd choice & cup games, working alongside a number 1 & have him compete for the shirt - or out on loan, preferably Lg1 or Scots Prem & monitor progress.
As a minimum I'd expect to see 1 goalkeeper in this summer, probably 2 & maybe 3.

agree that we need someone experienced in the Bennett mould. Ali Al-Habsi has been released by West brom and would tick that box well IMO.

You don't often see the clip progress to show that the ref had blown for offside. Fuck it up and ah well, free kick. Nail it and the world goes mad. |

Having spoke to Ben personally at derby train station. I asked him out right (because I’m well ard!) are you coming back to town he laughed and said no chance. This was just before lockdown. I know he’s on loan and things can/have changed but he seemed very specific!

Because he was an experienced championship keeper before he joined us and was dogshit beyond belief for us. He's a good character to have around is Hamer but I should imagine he knows he hasn't got a future here. And your snack suggestions are all accepted with relish |
