I went to watch a Sporting Lisbon game in Portugal when John Toshack was their manager be about 84 ish maybe 85. There was eight of us in a group. There was a young lad with a basket of beers - we kept that kid running backwards and forwards the entire match - just to keep us in supply. Top game. No trouble, no violence, great entertainment and great service.

Imagine the current catering team trying to manage delivery to seats It's a great idea though! Sent from my SM-A515F using proboards

Not sure this is a good idea. Football is far too passionate.
Plus the youth of today seem to enjoy throwing their beer about Could end up a right mess.

Full picnic baskets next???
Use the walkways for barbeques???
As the country realises it's so unfit that huge numbers are in 'risk' groups we come up with a plan to save people from 45 minutes without a beer???
Get smoking back, it will help save the pubs???

Pork and Apple pies are a thing anyway, so once you get over the sogginess of the pie in the flask drenched in cider it'll taste just fine.

It's interesting but of no real significance to me. I was never in a position to go to matches with a cohort whilst at a drinking age so going to football has never had a connection with drinking. I probably have a beer at the stadium once or maybe twice during a whole season, usually either very early or late in the season on a nice warm day. It's not part of my usual'match day experience' at all.

Drinks at your seat common in europe. So much more civilised no halftime rush to the kiosk. Not that I bother with the piss Town sell as beer.

Most of my early years at matches were with dad and he was never one for drinking at games either. Left Yorkshire at 18 and since living away have never been in a social group that contained more than 1 town fan. So I've never had that 'lads out together' going to games and I'm usually driving anyway. I'm happier going out to celebrate a win on a Sat night anyway. I'm the only town fan in my usual sat drinking cohort these days (though we haven't met up as a group since lockdown!).

Surely people walking backwards and forwards to the bar during the game is going to make it harder to social distance not easier?

They do it in the states at some stadiums for Baseball etc. Not sure how it’s possible unless on a row end though! Have they got little pop up hatches under every seat ? 😜

The continual walking up and down and community 'eating' was a pain..

Until some daft twat decides to throw a pint of beer in the air when their team scores, drenching near neighbours in the process, could definitely be more trouble than what its worth.

Tha father never took ya for a pre-match beer?? That’s borderline child abuse in my eyes.. Get thissen in Wetherspoon at noon.. Quick gallon.. Then hot dog on way down to ground.. Works every time for me bro.. 🍺

Actually when I was much older we did start going in the Peacock for a pre game pint for a few seasons when we were in league 1 but by then I was taking him rather than the other way round, then dads health deteriorated and it wasn't really feasible any more. Didn't live quite long enough to see us promoted to the Prem sadly.

Because putting your beer down when your side are launching an attack would be too much trouble. Only exception is the goal that comes from nowhere but there aren't many of those. Lynch's v Charlton about 6 or 7 years ago springs to mind but not many others.

Me too, I quaff as much as I can before the game and then again after the game, In the boozer, I aint wasting my brass supping grossly expensive luke warm shit.
The last time I had a pie it was shit, burnt crust but soggy bottom, A balti pie with 2 small bits of chicken and a bit of sauce, Never again.
