With our lack of options in midfield, I'd be tempted to keep him in and around the squad for the rest of this season. I'm saying this without seeing any of our younger players much at all, but if he did ok at League One, surely he's further in his development than some others who occasionally get on our bench are. I reckon he'll stay and learn from the new regime, which he hasn't done yet. And with some proper men's football behind him, he's more likely to actually come on from the bench and not be overawed.

I think whether we loan him out again or not will depend on if we bring any midfielders in this window.

Off the top of my head (and no claims whatsoever to be ITK).
* Is he ready to make an impact in our first team? * Does it look like Vallejo isn't up to scratch & High is being mooted as a better option to provide back-up/cover in that position? * Is there a loan lined up somewhere else that's deemed to be better option for his development? * Problems with the new management team at Shrewsbury?
Each of those 4 seems plausible to me.

Another Bockhorn brought in to make up the numbers.

He faded out of the first team picture at Shrewsbury up to and after the new manager came in. He'll be off somewhere else, he's good enough for league one in a side with a midfield spot for him. Shrewsbury just weren't that team. Shouldn't rush sending him back out though, give the coaching staff some time to see if he'd fit in the current squad and keep him if he'd be better off here for the rest of the season. I suspect he'll be off again though

Wouldn’t get too excited. Examiner reports that he’s been recalled because he can’t get into the Shrewsbury team.

Another Bockhorn brought in to make up the numbers. I wouldn't say it was necessarily an odd signing. He wasn't in the 4th division, he was in the Spanish 2nd division. Equivalent would probably be signing a fringe player from Barnsley - not one to whet the appetite, but not a no-hoper either. I saw it as a low cost, low risk option in a position where we needed cover, signed at a time when only free agents were available. Had Hogg got injured we might reasonably have asked why we didn't sign any of the free agents that were available to cover us until January. Even a short-term cheap option (which I assume Vallejo is). However, now it looks like we took out some low cost insurance because it was cheap & the cover offered was better than nothing. Unless something changes or there's something I've missed, this is a punt that doesn't appear to have paid off & I'll be surprised if we take up the option to extend his contract at the end of the season.

Out of 13 matches he started 11, including the last one before Whitehead and the manager were sacked. New manager comes in and has to make changes. The easy change is to drop the 19 year old who's in on loan. After a couple of games Town see that he's not getting picked by the new manager so they tell Shrewsbury they'll be recalling him in Jan. I recon he's back and in the squad. He also won't want to go out on Loan having seen CC give Jackson and Diarra opportunities. He is a better footballer than those 2

Yes Yes No No Best of the young midfielders at the club Not sure whether you're guessing as much as I am or whether you have inside info - but just to clarify, when I say "problems with the new management team at Shrewsbury", that could easily just be that they (understandably given their position) feel they need a bit more experience in that role rather than leaving some untested kid who is still developing in that role. Not Cotterill et al's fault, but no good for High's development.

He is a better footballer than those 2 Jackson - 2x appearances Diarra - 1x substitute appearance in a game whose result was already a foregone conclusion before he entered the fray. If that's the amount of game time he can expect at our level then I wonder whether playing a reasonably major role at a club in League 1 (or if it's the right club, 2) would be more beneficial? If he can get a loan to (e.g.) a side just outside the playoffs in Lg1 that might serve him very well, then come in to preseason 2021 as a genuine contender for regular first team football here next season? Maybe.

Couldn't find a non-archived thread for Matty Daly, but...
Does anyone know why Daly is now playing as a regular in the B team, but Scott High keeps getting on the first team bench ahead of him? I'm not in any way blaming High for impressing the staff and getting picked, I just used to rate Daly at a higher level than I've seen from High recently.

Think the main one coming through is Diarra. This kid is going to sell for millions!
If we are safe towards the end of the season then I would love to see him getting some minutes in the first team.

I think the big issue for Daly is that, and I stand to be corrected, but his most effective position is an an CAM/10 in the mould of Izzy Brown / Kasey Palmer. CC doesn't really seem to play with anyone in that position. He has Hogg/Vallejo sitting as the CDM/6 and then 2 CM/8's in Obrien/Bacuna. Even when he's played Hogg, O'Biren, Baccuna & Holmes and 2 wing backs, he's not really played with a proper 10. Scott High is more of a Defensive Midfielder, playing either as a sitting CDM/6 or defensive minded 8. So when deciding between the 2 for one of the extra subs places, High probably get's the nod due to being a bit more suited to CC's style

Agreed he is definitely the one to watch at the moment. He has all the attributes both on and off the pitch to make it right to the very top of the game. It'll be interesting to see what the club decide to do with him next season. Loan him out for the season or keep him

Another loan for High next season - maybe at Lg2 so he can get more games than he did at Shrewsbury - may be beneficial. From what I've seen so far he's not nearly ready for Championship football. Vallejo always struck me as an odd signing. Hadn't played for nearly a year and when he did it was for some 4th division team. Another Bockhorn brought in to make up the numbers. In danger of sounding like a complete old schooler, I'd send him and Mbenza (if he stayed) to do boxing or wrestling for a month, to get some physicality and aggression into them. They sent the young Fred Trueman down the pit to pull carts for a year. At the time it was their best idea to build his lower back muscles. Personally, I think Pritchard should have spent last year on his back on canal barges, using his legs to move them through low tunnels. It would have strengthened his hamstrings and knees no end.
