£9m? Whoopee! Yes please! Pronto! Wont be much left of that if we paid Monaco over the term of the contract - not sure if his contract was 3 years but if it was we would still owe them the balance on their deal (c£6m) before we saw any cash ourselves, and as I understand it that is due immediately. It might actually be cash negative immediately, but it would take a top earner off the books. For me, even if it's immediately cash negative I reckon we take the hit to get his wages off the books. Likely to be better for the club in the long term.

Pure speculation (just for you positive) but although he signed for 4 years I think it would be unlikely we paid the fee over the full term or in equal parts. Probably something like £8.5m up front and then 2 annual instalments of £4.5m. Which would mean we’re already paid up. Of course, any buyer might also ask to pay us in instalments...

...also, regarding the wages saving, if he signed on £40-50K per week, and assuming the rumoured 40% relegation clause activated, the club would save about £1.5m this season, which you could add onto the fee received as a total benefit.

If it wasn't, he's cost us roughly 400k a game........ And I used to think Terry Austin was expensive. Had to google him. Actually signed the season my dad started taking me to games, I was only 4 at the time though. How much did he cost ?

Can't remember exactly how much. Just remember it was far, far more than Buxton normally spent on a player and his cheaper signings were much better. Just googled: link

From (an increasingly hazy) memory, £120k was the figure that came straight to mind. Happy to be corrected as I can't be arsed to google it.

Genuine interest in Kongolo and Pritchard but nothing agreed yet. Any further news on Grant? Something likely to happen or gone quiet? Any news on any incomings? Ideal world (for me) get rid of those 3 for starters and bring in 5...

Genuine interest in Kongolo and Pritchard but nothing agreed yet. Would be fantastic to get them both off the books. Probably the highest earners and both contribute f all at the moment.

Do we have purchases ready to go pending sales or would any money just be banked?

Do we have purchases ready to go pending sales or would any money just be banked? Any funds generated from sales will go directly under Phil's mattress and put towards his and Dean's evil plans for the destruction of Huddersfield Town, oh and also towards a new yacht cos his old one is dirty.

The pattern of the numbers of players we've brought in but have failed to deliver is the concerning thing...are we really buying so many duff players or is it we buy players who can play a 'certain role' and are good at that, but then we play them in a 'different role' and they're not so good at that ? We can all recall bringing in some player or other who we've then decided to play in a completely different position...Didn't we play Tom Ince on the 'wrong wing', for instance, ? is this the crux of our problem..or is it simply we're crap at recruitment, full stop..

I actually think we had a very good team in the Premier League, right up until Wagner leaving we were competitive. Much better than i expected when we won promotion. With the exception of Diabenza when we should have got Traora i don’t think the Premier League recruitment was the big problem. It was the self destruct button we pressed as soon as we knew relegation was coming and the absolute turd we signed after and rubbish fees we got for players we couldn’t wait to tell everyone how shit they were.

Ultimately, each and every signing is a gamble because there are so many factors involved it is impossible to predict how well it will work out. And each player is an individual human being, mostly young and a bit daft, which I think we frequently forget. The upshot is that no one really does it consistently well. Stuart Webber signed Jason Davidson, Elvis Manu, Jed Steer, Ivan Paurević as well as Ben Chilwell, Aaron Mooy and Chris Schindler. Whoever was in charge in January 2019 signed Jason Puncheon as well as Karlan Grant. There’s nothing to say if you make 10, or 20 signings that ANY of them will work out. And that’s what happened to us. I suppose the thing that you can do to minimise the risk is sign players who have performed well, recently and consistently at the level you are playing at. But these players are the most expensive ones, so the reduced performance-side risk is offset by the financial-side risk. Maybe Town could be fairly criticised for not taking this sort of risk over recent seasons, rather than buying cheap(er) and taking the performance risk...

Really?!!! Apart from goal scoring it was a better side second season It might be argued that if you reduce football to its simplest - score more goals than the opponent - then it is impossible for a good side to not score goals. Therefore the 2018-19 was not better than the 2017-18 one, and not incidentally, it wasn’t better than any of the other teams in the division either.

It was like a Leeds fan took over on Championship Manager and successfully wiped 100 million pound off a clubs value. Unfortunately for Phil he was still working from the pre brain fart figures.
