The transfer window is shut but there's still plenty of players we can sign. Many clubs did the same thing as Town and released a lot of players in the summer. Here's a few that are still without clubs in positions the club has tried strengthening in.
Danny Welbeck Nathan Dyer Daniel Sturridge Beñat Markel Susaeta Ander Iturraspe Andre Green Van La Parra Collin Quaner Yannick Sagbo
Reading between the lines, the club are going to be after a free agent winger with the Aarons deal falling through. I wonder if it's any of these

I wonder if it's any of these Andre Green looks a reasonable fit, but may not be good enough. VLP would settle in quicker and is a decent short term option, but because of Covid and the sporting bubble any out of contract players would be short of fitness and a potential infection risk. The club obviously invested in Aarons by having him down in Lepton keeping fit as well as isolated, so he'd be ready to join the squad straight away. So for the deal to fall through at the last minute you'd hope it wasn't just an administrative cock up!

Andre Green was very highly rated winger as a youth player and played for England at all international youth levels, so I'm wondering what has gone on with him for him to be in this position. He's the only one other than VLP on that list that I would be tempted to take a punt on, but the fact his stock seems to have dropped so quickly would be a cause for concern. I remember he had a bad injury at one point but whether that's had a negative effect or not I don't know.

Nothing to say Newcastle won’t cancel Aaron’s contract
I’m more concerned why were after him in the first place
We clearly need attacking reinforcements but championship quality not another couple of league 1/2 players
Was that seriously the best we could find on football manager?

Honestly, if we couldn't get the Aarons deal over the line (most likely due to financial reasons) there's not a chance in hell we'll be bringing in anyone off that list, free transfer or not.

A Yorkshire post journo was saying that a player has to have been a free agent before the deadline for them to signed now as a free agent. If he’s correct that would obviously stop Newcastle doing that for Aaron’s (and also Nugent with Preston).

Added Ander Iturraspe to the OP. Rumours he's been training with us during the international break on another thread

Added Ander Iturraspe to the OP. Rumours he's been training with us during the international break on another thread IF true I’d be happy with that. A 3 of him, Eiting and O’Brien with Pritchard/Hogg as backup looks good to me. I’d take VLP back too. Defence looks sorted.

Would imagine there’ll be plenty on the market but it’ll take time to get anyone we sign up to speed. After doing due diligence on them.
We’ve got about 8 games in the next month. Be plenty of Huddersfield Town Nil in that time.

If its true then the imbalance of our squad in terms of strength is ridiculous. Far too much quality in midfield compared to the forward areas for example. Surely it makes more sense to not bring him in and use the money in the forward areas. Or if they really wanted to sign him, then move on one of Bacuna, Hogg or Obrien given that there would be interest in all three and then use that money to strengthen further up the pitch

Shinji Kagawa is at a loose end 😉 - had his contract at Zaragoza cancelled at the beginning of this month.... Joined them in La Liga 2, so wages should be within reach plus he’s lived in the north of England before....

It is the rule, but I suspect if it was ever tested in court it would fail under restraint of trade. Possibly or possibly not. The fact is that (say) Aarons is registered to a club through to the next transfer window. He would be voluntarily relinquishing this. It would quite possibly be no more a restraint of trade than Aarons not being able to transfer to Town today via more conventional routes.

It would quite possibly be no more a restraint of trade than Aarons not being able to transfer to Town today via more conventional routes. It would be very robustly defended by the FA i think. Otherwise it opens a loophole to the transfer window. Having said that, if the club don't want them and they want to play?

If a club cancel a contract he becomes a free agent why not let him sign elsewhere it’s irrational

Borini, Stoch, Avdijav all left sided forwards. All would be an improvement.

I can't say I was the biggest VLP fan but surely he's a better option for either wing than Diakhaby? I think it would be sensible to bring him back for the rest of the season and see how he gets on
