Hi all
This should probably be off topic but I know some people never look there.
My Ipod Shuffle (yes I know) has finally given up the ghost after 15 years.
What would people recommend as a new portable music player?
Don't want top of the range, it's just for while out walking, my home stereo is perfect.
Not online at home so mustn't be internet reliant.
Don't care if it's MP3, Windows, whatever, so long as I can put the tunes that are on my laptop (or on CD) onto the player without going online.
I don't have (or want) a smartphone.
Thanks for any help.

Thanks for any help. I've got a Sony Walkman mp3 player which I've had for about 10 years. Not sure whether it will hold as much music as your old IPod shuffle but the sound quality is really good. There's one at £60 at Argos now which is probably the up to date version of the one I have. I use Windows Media Player to drag music onto it, but I guess there's other ways to do it.

I have an iPod classic which I think has 160gb capacity. Had it 7 years and still plays well, although it does occasionally 'lock' and has to be re-set.

I can offer no help or advice in terms of replacement device, however you need to make sure you choose well. Loads of these devices will be difficult to support in the not too distant future.
It might not be right, but that's the way tech goes nowadays. In terms of product cycles things are ridiculously short nowadays.
How many on here have a laptop with CD/DVD drive for instance?

I had to buy a external CD drive to connect to the laptop as they just don't come as standard anymore.

They do still manufacture simple basic phones, small and easy to use, im not and never have been a phone addict but i would certainly miss it if i lost my iphone.

Buy a basic smartphone. Don't connect it to any WiFi (except to transfer the music) or put a SIM card in it.

Thanks for everyone's input, think I'll go for a Sony Walkman or something similar.
Never owned a smart phone, got a reliable Nokia brick (3310 I think).
Stuck to that for last thirteen years or so. Never been bothered about internet or most games so just replaced the Nokia with another Nokia every time they've died.
Also, unlike some people I know, I don't buy new stuff and then plead poverty and use a food bank.
That's not a dig at genuine people who need the service but I personally know 5 people who use food banks but have massive plasma TV's, numerous consoles, etc. and can always afford the new fad!
It's funny but I was taught if you can't afford something do without. Doesn't seem to be the case nowadays.
Anyhow, thanks all.
