Very much doubt Town will be going up or down so surely a decent cup run is a must for many otherwise season seems more or less over .
I live in the west country with a lot of my mates being Argyle supporters and very much in touch what their teams recent results and expectations for this match.
Most seem to think its there for the taking and think town might rest most of their first team players as playing a team from a lower division.
Plymouth have a decent team with an inform quality striker called Luke Jephcott who could rip our dodgy defence apart if given to much room .
Jephcott will surely be on the move soon to the championship and Saturday will see him more in the spotlight .
Remember the name .

Play the kids, no fans to look forward to a cup run and its pointless littering our already busy schedule with further games with our depleted squad.
Let them have a run out and who knows they might surprise us but if they get beat, does it really matter?

Huddersfield Town’s 2-1 home defeat to Reading on Saturday, 2 January 2020, brought to an end a six-game home unbeaten run. Carlos Corberán named an unchanged starting XI for the fifth successive game. Lucas João, back from five matches out injured, scored a second half brace as the Royals came back from Fraizer Campbell’s early opener. Our goal was the result of a slick attacking move and Town looked comfortable throughout the first period. However, we failed to press home our advantage and this was ultimately going to cost us. Reading, who had been able to make four changes, despite a day’s less preparation and their extensive travelling, looked the fresher side. They upped the pace in the second period and two defensive mistakes lost us all three points. The result saw Town slip to 13th in the Championship with 31 points from 23 games. On Saturday, 9 January 2021, KO 18:00 we embark on our FA Cup campaign, at the 3rd Round stage, at home to League 1 Plymouth Argyle. This tie will be decided on the day with Extra Time and penalties if required. The match will be available, free of charge, live on the FA Player. Prior registration is required. It will not be purchasable on iFollow nor will it be available on the Sky Sports platform. The referee selected for this match is Martin Coy. We have played our Devonian visitors infrequently in recent seasons but we have won all eight home league clashes with them since 1987! Our most recent meeting, at the John Smith’s Stadium, was on 11 January 2011, in League 1, when we won 3-2. After an own-goal, Jordan Rhodes, and Peter Clarke scored as Town battled back from two goals down albeit helped by Argyle being reduced to nine men by the end! In 2019-20 Plymouth were promoted from League 2 in 3rd position. This term they exited the Carabao Cup, in the second round, at Leyton Orient after having eliminated Queens Park Rangers. Plymouth forward Luke Jephcott looks the man to watch. He took his goal tally to 14 for the season in all competitions as Argyle had a 1-0 home win over Gillingham on Saturday. The Pilgrims currently lie 17th in League 1 with 23 points from their 20 matches. There are no nailed-on victories for Town in cup competitions, particularly since we are likely to play our youthful second string. Were we to play a full-strength side then I should be confident of a win. However, I think it is most likely that we will rest our key players and, against a physical, motivated team, I can see us slipping up. Current PP odds: 90 minutes Town: 4/5 Draw: 13/5 Plymouth: 3/1 Plymouth to Draw or Win: 10/11 Thanks for the F.A player.

For once it would be nice if the club made a concerted effort to try and progress a round or two. As the league campaign is clearly going to end in mid table mediocrity without any real dramas we have an opportunity to give the FA Cup our full attention. Play a strong team and crack on. They will all have had a full week's rest before the game. The poor loves will be fine. We could soon get dragged in. Hull were 8th on 39 points after 26 matches last season and finished bottom.

We could, in theory. But we won't. We are a better team, and we keep winning and losing in a seemingly cyclical way - I have every confidence we will have a boring second half of the season. Play a decent team in the cups, and keep the club's monies safe until the summer when we can strengthen the team, and squad, and aim to have a more consistent season.

There really isnt enough incentive to risk any of our 11 first team players in the cup this season. You dont have the additional gate income that a cup run brings, we have played all the big sides recently when we were in the Premiership and in an empty stadium there is no real "magic" of the FA Cup because even a big shock result cant be celebrated by the fans.
Just imagine for example, we play a full strength team, and we pick up 2 long term injuries, scrape a narrow win, then get Bournemouth away in the next round and lose 5-0 again. What have we achieved apart from putting more strain on the fit first team players we have, not to mention backfilling with players from the bench who arent good enough. Before anyone says, I know players can go down in training with an injury etc.
Dont get me wrong, I am a big fan of both cup competitions, right from the excitement and lottery of the draw, through to the additional gate receipts that cup games can bring in, but also the distraction that you sometimes need from the league campaign. I just think that with the way the squad is right now, and for the reasons I mentioned above, I would honestly play a team similar to the second half against Bradford in the pre season friendly. Give the young lads a chance in a competitive game, and see if anyone of them want to lay down a marker, and would be considered as a viable alternative if we get another injury.

I would have thought Plymouth players would be fatiged having spent the best part of Saturday morning sat on a coach for up to 6 hours.

A poster just wrote "out on their feet" with the season not even half over. In a time when finances are rock bottom i thought a couple of huge cup games might just be the tonic.

Have to admit, I'm starting to believe that if our fullbacks don't perform as a team we just don't work as well at all. 20 years ago it would've been unthinkable to say that but the modern game is heavily reliant on FBs.
