We'd have been alot better off if we'd have sold to the other party...who own AC Milan. An American vulture fund? We could be being touted for this Euro Super League

Hi all
Someone mentioned this to me so....
I can answer this one...
OPE was a sub brand of a larger betting company (a big one) ... was an experiment to launch a new website but never really worked
OPE never interested in buying Town
OPE paid their sponsorship money (for the two seasons up front at the beginning of the season) unlike some that promised it and went bust
There was a couple of strange emails about infringement but nothing ever came of it when OPE lawyers got involved. Got blown out of proportion
I had the pleasure of meeting the owner and he was a gentleman and very honourable. His UK agent remains a friend of mine today.
No cloak and dagger stuff .. was a straightforward deal - he wanted to get the OPE brand into the Asian market (UK gambling market is not that big for the Asian betting brands)
At the time of the sponsorship we had a number of interested parties (gaming companies only) and he became the highest bidder and was willing to put a deposit down within 7 days (and we took the bidding to the wire to get the highest bid)
He also supported the club in a few other financial ways too by sponsorship of a couple of events...
That’s it really ... nothing clandestine... if we could have attracted a non betting brand that paid those fees we would have taken those but none willing to back us.
Hope all is good
Sean

Did OPE ever have a functioning website? iirc the website was very odd, i checked it out and it looked like something thrown up. looked suspicious to me at the time I'll be honest...so the rumours in this thread would have made sense to me.. funny how comunication from someone [who was] at the club that you trust can put thoughts like this to bed!

Am I the only one who doesn’t mind the dog badge? After all we could’ve ended up with a chest-wanking effort. Count our blessings!

I got the three strips that season and took them to shop in Glasgow and had them removed and replaced with the shield and three stars one. A guy in The Rope Walk noticed the change the next season. That said I buy lots of Town merchandise and plenty people comment how smart the club gear is. I told Luke and some of the lovely shop ladies this and they were happy to hear it.

If it had just stayed on training gear rather than going on the matchday kits it would have been fine, in my opinion. On the kits it just looked cheap and wrong. Add in the poor quality of the badges and lettering on the replica stuff and it all felt very shoddy.

I bought a shirt, for the first time in many years, then I read all the horror stories about the transfers coming off so I made sure that when it went in the wash it was turned inside out and for 6 months or so it was fine but then they started to fall off. End result a shirt that cost £50 was cut up and sewn to make blue and white COVID face masks. Not a problem if it was a tenner, the price an equivalent would have been at Primark or Mataln. As for the “Shite Dog” I personally didn’t mind it per se but like OPE it didn’t feel right, all the Yorkshire club mantra was thrown away to try and curry favour (pun not intended ?) with an Asian market that couldn’t give a flying Fk about HTFC other than we were in the PL.

Could improve one or two shirts from seasons gone by actually.

I absolutely love the Terrier badge. I think it’s a real shame they aren’t using it on the shirts personally, and think at the very least they should have it on some of the training gear. That type of badge works so much better than the one we have on our kits this season. It’s really well designed and you can tell it’s been done by a professional , whereas our new official looks like it’s been done by someone at the club sadly. They have just crammed every element they can into it in an effort to please everyone and the end result is a mess. Why do we need ‘1908’? And why have we thrown the 3 league title stars into the river Colne!? The Terrier badge was so badly applied to the shirts when it was stuck on and rubberised, it was obviously just a cost cutting measure. But I don’t suppose when Umbro suggested it they would’ve said that it will all fall off after a few washes. It should be embroidered into the shirt (like Liverpool’s Liver bird) or embroidered onto a plain white circular patch (like spurs and France’s Cockerels). Also it should be scaled up from the size it was when it was on the shirt. It was done the same size as a manufacturers logo, like the Umbro badge in the other side. So it needed to be a bit bigger, or to have the 3 stars above to bulk it up a bit. I really hope we will use it on the shirts again at some point, just needs to be done in the right way.
