After the highs last night really sad to hear this news this morning. We knew it was coming sadly. Scored the first Leeds live goal I ever saw as a nipper in 1975 at Elland Road and was lucky enough to meet the great man in more recent years as an ambassador for the club. No heirs or graces, a really genuine guy. Beyond rivalries and appreciate the messages of sympathy on here too. Cheers people. RIP Peter Lorimer. 90 miles an hour.

Met him a couple of times in similar circumstances; genuinely nice fella. RIP

Sorry to hear this. His shooting power was legendary in the 70,s and he was an integral part of their great team at that time.

Remember him from the games in the West Riding Cup and later when he turned up in the York City team where he was manager when we won the Fourth Division. He did not half get some stick at Leeds Road and yet we failed to beat them even though we won easily 4-0 at York later in the same season. By then they had sacked him and let him get back to playing simply as a player.
Still cannot get over how that goal he scored in the 1975 European Cup final was ruled out. I know the reason was because Bremner was interfering with play but in reality he wasn't. Such a shame because it could have been the pinnacle of superb career.
Lorimer was a superstar yet seemed so down to earth. I remember a League Cup tie Leeds played against Bradford City about ten years ago and Lorimer was one of the guests in the studio. It was interesting to hear him say how competitive the West Riding Cup had been when he was a player which I knew to be true after seeing so many.

Very sad to hear that news. Back in the day (late '60's) I used to visit Elland Road on a fairly regular basis, it probably sounds odd to say this in the present climate of footballing xenophobia, but Leeds were my second favourite team and Mr Lorrimer was, after Eddie Gray, my second favourite player in the team. I can still bring to mind some of the goals that he scored. He probably doesn't rate the description of "all-time great" but he was certainly extremely good.

The only things that I remember about Peter Lorimer were: he scored from long range, he was Scottish, and I bought a calf-skin key ring folder on the pier at Lytham St Annes with all the photos of Leeds United players and he was in it (I can still see the disgust on my father's face. This was during my weak period when I joined the Leeds team in the school playground).

Another great footballer from a different era, sad news. Apparently, he only ever missed two penalties and one of them was against Town when Terry Pool saved it.

I always thought that Town missed the boat by not signing a few of those Leeds players towards the end of their careers. Bremner, Charlton, Hunter, Lorimer etc. All ended up elsewhere.
The only one we picked up was Rod Belfitt, not bad but not really the same class.

Think I'd have drawn the line at Brenner. He always came over as arrogant dirty little twat , even my Leeds supporting friend partly agrees with that..

Similarly my dad used to watch town but when they were away he`d occasionally go to Elland rd, not to particularly support Leeds but to watch John Charles who he said is the best player he ever saw, im sure there are players we all admire who play for opposing teams but(i may be wrong here)it seems doing that isnt as common anymore, fans seem more partizan nowadays, plus the fact being on a ticketing data base is often required.

A well played life Mr Lorimer.
I remember buying PL’s sock number things that Leeds introduced back in the 70’s.
Rest in peace.
Respectfully UTT
