In a hospice battling a long term illness. Good luck and best wishes to an old enemy.

Old school footballer, we could do with a few more like him in today's game.

Sad news. He always came over as one of the half decent ones , along with Cherry and Madeley..(I'll stop there).

Old school footballer, we could do with a few more like him in today's game. His nickname summed his game up, old school footballer "Lash." April 5th 1972, Town battling against relegation & remarkably we were holding them, untill Peter Lorimer scored with an unstoppable rocket shot, just before half-time! Don't think I've seen anyone hit a ball cleaner & harder, than "Lash."

Lorimer could get the old balls to 'move' in the air long before anyone else.
Remember one against man city, about 25 yards out and it moved almost from one side of the goal to the other, Corrigan moves his feet and then just watches it go in the other corner.
Lorimer didnt cut across it, it was hammered.
Love em or hate em, they could play football and they could win games however necessary at times.
Best wishes to him.

Lorimer was in our pub dominoes team around 1973, in the Wetherby darts and doms league. Good player. Used to come in the pub with one of the trainers based at Wetherby racecourse, who was his partner in the league. They used to play for money during lock-ins, got up to £50 one evening, very decent money in those days. Good bloke, never a hint of Billy Big Bollocks. Sad to hear this news.

A true legend of the game (forget Clubs players for).
We are in a day and age now where overpaid prima Donna players are ten a penny (with us signing and having all 10).
I respect and admire Players like this when footballers weren’t per say the absolute bunch of overpaid c**** they are now.

I spent two hours with him once about 5 years ago....just me and him for about an hour. He was such a simple man but in the most positive sense. Everything he said resonated. No ego. Clearly a very really nice man....and a top, top player.

Lots of volleys and half-volleys, great back-lift in the leg. Watch how he always keeps over the ball and back straight. No leaning back ever.

As a kid, Peter Lorimer and David Harvey (didn’t care who they played for, they were just honest and good footballers) were heroes of mine, and getting your head over the ball and not striking as you leaned back was a really basic and obvious trait picked up. Kind of embarrassing watching highly paid professional footballers pull on a Town shirt and frankly be shit in that regard.

No it doesn't, don't exaggerate Oti. He can't kick it that far.

Very sad to read about Peter Lorimer. I do enjoy watching players from this era though. The point about technique is spot on. As a kid certain things were drilled into you. Keep your head down, knee over the ball. When heading at goal, head it down back in the direction it came from. Defenders, never pass back across your own goal. Goalkeepers, never punch or parry the ball when you could reasonably catch it. All basic stuff that seems oft forgotten thes days.

Saw him as an after dinner speaker. He was very close to John Charles in his last few years before he passed away. Brought him along to the dinner. Both good blokes.

Hunter, Cherry, Charlton and now Lorimer all within a short period of time. Leeds are having a tough time of it just now.

Sounds like he must have battled to the end, 4 weeks in a hospice.
Says it all really...
Hadn't realised he was Leeds record goalscorer. Some feat...
