Oh no!!!! What am I going to do this weekend with all footballing clubs boycotting social media? I’m lost, absolutely lost.
I promise I will never be racist, sexist or naughty again.

It's completely pointless. Totally hollow gesture. Won't change a fucking thing. It's a shame the club are taking part though - Not sure I can live without reminders of when we had a good team, just 4 years ago...

The people it's aimed at won't give a shit I'm afraid and merely a token gesture, It'll take more than this to make the social media companies do something.

I cannot see all the players being able to keep off, I mean what are they going to do? Let's just say a player, usually a lazy bastard maybe and an occasional hot head with a touch of brilliance every now and then, should happen to pull a rabbit from the hat and save his club from relegation with a stunning strike, what will he do Saturday evening while sat at home having his hair done? There might just be a lot of WAGS busy with their thumbs this weekend me thinks.

does that mean when we lose there will be no condescending messages coming out the club suggesting how great they are?

Think it's the best thing our social media team has done all season! Finally I won't have to read how Town "concede against the run of play" after having 5% possesion and clearing of our own line 4 times before we give away an inevitable goal. Or what an "incredible strike which nearly puts Town back into the game" it was when Danny Ward pass their keeper from a nothing-chance. Or that "Town pick up another point" after having 0 shots on goal at home to Wycombe or Rotherham or similar. Or read "how much we needed to win that game and that we need to put things right" for the 20 time in a row.

I’ve just heard somebody seriously suggest that football sets up its own social media platform. Fuck me sideways with a feather duster!

The boycott isn't aimed at the pondlife keyboard warriors, it's aimed at the social media platforms. Only way to make them step up is to hit them in the pocket.

They all have social media "teams" to do it for them so it's hardly going to make a difference to the players themselves this weekend just means the people they employ get the weekend off.

We might be in a minority of two but I 100% agree with you. The social media platforms are making money whilst basically not giving the square root of f*** all about policing the environments they've created. Hope the organisations behind the boycott have the b*****ks to repeat this & for longer if the SMP don't start taking issues seriously.

Not sure how we managed without it for thousands of years. I dont even have a telly. Never downloaded an app, only got a smartphone last year because work insisted. Just stay away from it, pointless garbage.

Fucking load of nonsense, any coincidence that such as the 'taking the knee' Bollocks coincides with worse racist accusations?. The very measures that are supposed to be fixing an issue of racism that never existed has ended up creating an issue!. The worlds gone mad.

The boycott isn't aimed at the pondlife keyboard warriors, it's aimed at the social media platforms. Only way to make them step up is to hit them in the pocket. Exactly. The social media platforms do next to nothing to stop racism/abuse, yet videos are down in minutes if they infringe copyright. This will hurt their pockets and maybe a show of strength may start to make them reconsider their stance.

The media, PC, big business mafia will have a shiny new cause in a few week. I wish the multi national companies with their stupid woke TV adverts would also take a break, we live in an age of jabbering mindless inaction.

If the top 100 followed players all removed their accounts and stated an intention to appear on a different platform (European SuperGram maybe??? Just kidding before anyone dives in two footed) they would have a new policy out in a heartbeat to stop them leaving. Unfortunately, I feel a 4 day boycott by one sport insufficient a threat to the SMCs. They know they are coming back, and will no doubt see a spike in traffic the moment the boycott is over.

It won't make any significant difference. Why?
1. Virtue signalling is all the current fashion, most being hypocritical, psychlogical deflection of people's own biases. In other words, most people complaining don't really care about it, or they are sheer hypocrites if proclaiming to care. Sad but true.
2. Do the politicians really care about this? If so, why have 20,000 police been cut and unavailable to deal with this nasty stuff?
3. The crap we see on SM is merely a direct reflection of the crap in society. It's a mirror. The real solution is that we need to fix so many fundamental problems in society. Banning something on SM won't actually get rid of it. It's like the analogy of a finger in dyke, it won't stop the flood of hate and abuse.
4. SM companies merely do what they are allowed to do within the law...but which law? US free speech First Amendment where any offensive view is permitted?
Or Chinese law where you can't fart without permission from Chairman Mao ?
Or the laws of 200 different countries in between these two extremes?
It's now impossible to control these companies, the Genie is already out of the box.
Lots of other reasons and hypocrisy which I can't be arsed to elucidate and write this time of night.....
Enjoy your weekend...hope we win tomorrow...UTT

It won't make any difference at all. There will always be keyboard warriors who have a few drinks then go online and make abusive comments to make them feel better. The social media companies won't and probably can't do much more. Imagine the hundreds of millions of posts, comments, photos and videos that are posted every day. They would need tens of thousands of staff to just scratch the surface of policing their platform.
Then if they do find posts, what do they do, report them to a hopelessly understaffed police force to try and track the perpetrators down if they can, costing all that money and resources and even if caught they will get a slap on the wrist at best. Or do they just remove them and ban the offender, who will just create a new account and do the same again.
Its a losing battle and while ever you have social media you will have idiots posting all kinds of abuse and crap because it gets them through another day of their miserable existence.
