Since getting together with my wife, I have gained a soft spot for Bromley. My father-in-law, sister-in-law & brother-in-law all support them and are heavily involved (Father in law used to be stadium announcer, Sister in law did match reports & social media & Brother in law was involved on the board - none still perform those roles but remain supporters - Sister-in-law's wedding reception was at Hayes Lane). I've been to quite a few of their games & although I started out as a neutral, I have to confess that although they'll never come close to HTFC, I do have a soft spot for the club. I've also had a soft spot for Halifax for a long time. I'm one of the few people who could wear a half and half legitimately!

I watched both of the play off semi,s for the championship and must admit enjoyed watching Bournemouth and Brentford as there was some decent football played. With regard to the other fixture nothing could be further from the truth. I saw very few flashes of skill from Swansea but on the whole it was like watching head tennis and hoof ball especially from Barnsley. I wish we had a dead ball player like Mowatt but as for the rest of their side it’s just a physical presence and when you get the ball just kick it towards the oppositions penalty box . It’s a shame Brentford had to meet Bournemouth in the semi’s as they both deserve to be in the final and look capable of making a go of it in the premiership. It does show though that a plan B as Barnsley plays all of the time can deliver points and I wish we had the height and physical capability to sometimes revert to this style when skilful football is not paying off.

I've said this all along. Swansea are a one-man team; if Ayew doesn't perform, they struggle. Bansley are rubbish and have got where they are with a physical, bustling approach; for whatever reason, teams who play better football than them have fallen by the wayside this season, which has contributed to their success (which will end with the 2nd leg). Even with big investment I doubt that either side would last long in the Greedy League.

So there we have it and things become narrowed down a little in who leaves the championship and who joines it from League 1. Brentford v Swansea Lincoln v Blackpool
From my romantic point of view long time since Brentford in the top league, and Lincoln are normally a League 1/2 club so maybe these two. From a selfish point of view I want the weakest possible championship as it’ll be another helluva battle next season once again, though encouraging signs with early signings by Town and surely never again will the club suffer that ridiculous injury list of last season for whatever reason it transpired.
Down to 4 now, be interesting to see what happens. Play offs are enjoyable when Town not involved, though of course I dearly wish that they were !

Would be good to see Brentford get over the line this time, be similar to us when we went up. Bit torn on who I want up but Lincoln probably just edges it for me. Done Blackpool a few times and although generally a decent day out, Lincoln is nearer and I haven’t checked but it must be a few years since we last played them.

Couldn’t say in the league, but a Cowley’s led Lincoln embarrassed Siewart’s Town in the League Cup a couple of seasons back.

I would like to disagree with you on the point about Brentford being like us. They are incredibly wealthy, so while they have a good head coach, and a high intensity style of play, I think that’s where the similarities end. Just to explore the extent of their financial power a bit more, here are some of the amounts they paid for players who started yesterday. Toney - £5 million rising to £10 with add ons Mbeumo - £5.8 Million Jansson - £6.8 million Pinnock- £3.5 million Henry - £1.8 million Canos - £3 million Jensen - 3.8 million Their recruitment is excellent, as ours was in our promotion season, but Brentford are comfortably one of the wealthiest clubs in the division.

I think Brentford’s greater wealth is in their knowledge of scouting. We didn’t progress in that area once Webber left. Running a scouting department like card factory was never going to work long term, we found gems in the past but we haven’t competed with Brentford in that area since Wagner and Webber left. Brentford having a full time scouting living in France is of great benefit to them where as we don’t, watching a few videos and the odd game live gave us Diakhaby, Mbenza and other charlatans of similar ilk. Character assessments are something we either failed to do, didn’t do well enough or just blatantly ignored as I’ve never seen such a bunch of uncaring individuals play for town over the last few years. As you say, they’re a wealthy club but I’d say their greater wealth is in their knowledge of scouting and running a club, something which we drastically need to change if we wish to be competitive. I hope Brentford go up and have a successful time in the PL, they deserve it.

Barnsley have played some very effective high intensity football this season which has brought them a good deal of success. it's not my type of football tbh but i'd probably swap our turgid efforts for theirs any day. Sadly for them Swansea knew exactly how to deal with Barnsleys predominantly arial threat and in doing so totally nullified them. I've not seen such a dire 2nd led performance for ages as Barnsley's was yesterday..Swansea are no great shakes but I think they'll beat Brentford in the final.
Lincoln recovered from an awful 1st half at Sunderland to scrape through..although they do look to have some decent young lads . Both Lincoln and Blackpool are decent away days so not really bothered who makes it through..
Halifax seem to have blown their chances of the play offs with a run of defeats at the crucial time...despite winning yesterday all the other competing teams won too so the final games sees 5 clubs competing for the last 2 play off spots..
next seasons Championship sees Norwich, Watford , brentford/swanseaa, Wednesday, Wycombe and Rotherham replaced by Fulham, WBA, Sheffield Utd, Hull City, Peterborough and Blackpool/Lincoln.. that to me looks to make it a stronger Championship, slightly. I just hope Town start the season better than our previous two seasons where we had no wins in 8 games in 2019/20 (24th) and just 3 wins in 8 (16th) last season.. Compare that to 2016/17 when we won 6 of our first 8 games and we know how that ended.. The last thing we need is to be floundering around in the drop zone for yet another season..we had enough of that pre Wagner..

I'm afraid that John Aldridge's time at Tranmere turned me off them forever. Cheating, diving, shit-stirrer. Always, always got key decisions against us. It's as if the refs knew that he couldn't be in the wrong. I remember being at Prenton Park and them scoring a goal in about the 98th min to rob us. No one could understand where the ref found the injury time from, one theory in the stands was he'd forgotten to re-start his watch! I do remember Cowan scoring for us earlier in the game and being gutted we didn't hold out Yes I remember that n'all.

If you look at the statistics that Kieran Maguire has just produced on his Twitter page, they are certainly not one of the wealthiest teams in the division. Their average weekly wage bill is about the median one for the division, and their income is one of the lowest. However, as you say, their spend on transfer fees is very high and, because their income is generally low, their spend to income ratio is 186% - beaten only by Reading. As a result their loss for 2020 was £34m. A lot of clubs are citing Covid as a reason for huge losses in 2020, but they were only affected for 3 months. Heaven knows what the figures for 2021 for most clubs are going to look like.

I hope Brentford go up and have a successful time in the PL, they deserve it. Spot on, Ben. Brentford have built up a better squad each season due to a great scouting set up which means they buy young quality players from lower English leagues or abroad, coach them well in a positive way and sell them for big profits. This enables them to buy progressively better players and the virtuous cycle continues. I really hope they go up because they are the perfect model of a well run smaller Championship club - however, the Premiership could ruin them.

I want Swansea out of this division it is a long trip and a crap day out while Brentford are a better side and it is a brilliant day out darn Sarf. Brentford will blow it again. Blackpool are a far better side than Lincoln, while Lincoln think they are something special. Verdict, Blackpool all the way. Just imagine THE MASSIVE playing Morecambe that will bring them down to earth and Morecambe deserve it more than Newport and it will be a day out at the seaside for the MASSIVE. Verdict Morecambe, Eric would have been proud of them.

Don't see why Welsh teams should even be in the English league. How come they are invited when Rangers and Celtic are not? So on that basis I'll be supporting Brentford and Morecambe.
Always had a soft spot for Lincoln and we have the Jacko connection so good luck Imps.

Nothing against Scottish teams per se, but i wouldnt want Rangers and Celtic in the English leagues purely because of all the sectarian nonesense that comes with it, every time they played down here trouble would be virtually guaranteed, again nothing against Scottish teams its just what come with the package regarding certain clubs.

On that basis, and because there is also a Welsh national team, the answer to your question is YES, I would kick the welsh teams out.

The irony is that the Welsh FA decided that if an English team won the cup they would not be allowed the European place that would go to the highest placed Welsh team, would the English FA get away with the same with Swansea and Cardiff ? Obviously not because Swansea qualified having won the League Cup recently.

Location of the ground is irrelevant.

That would be Dee-visive...or get them to make their mind up...or move ground Back to Moss Rose,, lovely little ground.[/quote When Chester moved out of their old ground, Sealand Road, while their new Deva Stadium was being built they were in the 3rd division and they spent 2 seasons doing a ground share with Macclesfield, who were a non league side, at the Moss Rose. What sums the FL up is back then there wasn’t automatic promotion into the league if you finished top, they’d moved on from when I started following and teams like Hartlepool used to keep applying for re election and put more effort into looking after visiting clubs board of directors so they would keep them in than they did to improve their team to the authorities deciding if you should be allowed to go up. While sharing with a 3rd tier side Macc Town were denied entry in the 4th tier on the basis their ground wasn’t unto standard ? How does that work ? Back to the city of Chester, famously their Town Hall clock tower only has a clock face on 3 sides, the west side that faces Wales doesn’t have one as they wouldn’t give the Welsh the time of day ! Also there’s the “it’s still legal to kill a Welshman in Chester with your bow and arrow” while it’s not strictly true there is some basis to it going back over 600 years but if you’re determined, midnight on Sunday, with a longbow and inside the city walls would be the best time to do it. Finally, Chester, Rotherham and Brighton are teams who I’ve seen play against Town in 3 different home stadiums, it would have included Spurs but I never got to White Heart Lane and there’s an awful lot more with just 2, Town included of course and apparently there’s talk of Scunthorpe moving home again although Glanford Park is only 35 years old ?
